There is no universal winner: the Casio Duro MDV-106-1AV is the simpler 200 m quartz option, while a specific Timex Deepwater may be worth considering for features such as sapphire crystal, GMT functionality or titanium automatic construction. Compare exact references: Deepwater is a collection, not one specification set.

Which models are being compared?

The Casio details below refer primarily to the resin-band MDV-106-1AV listed by Casio Canada. Timex Deepwater includes multiple watches, including 200 m and 300 m models, so claims about one reference should not automatically be applied to the whole collection.

Casio bracelet variant

The US-listed MDV106DD-1A1 is a separate metal-band configuration. Casio’s US page displays $99.95 and lists 200 m water resistance, the same 48.5 × 44.2 × 12.1 mm dimensions, and a weight of 145 g. Those details and that displayed price belong to the bracelet variant, not the resin-band MDV-106-1AV. Casio’s US MDV106DD-1A1 listing

Timex Deepwater models

Timex’s collection overview highlights 41 mm cases, ratcheting unidirectional bezels, Super-LumiNova and scratch-resistant sapphire crystals with anti-reflective coating. Treat these as collection-page descriptions and confirm each feature on the exact reference. One concrete example is the Deepwater Reef 200 Titanium Automatic: Timex lists a 41 mm grade 2 titanium case, screw-down crown, screw-on caseback, sapphire crystal, Super-LumiNova, 200 m water resistance and a Miyota 8215 21-jewel Japanese automatic movement. How do their size, materials and movements differ?

The Duro MDV-106-1AV is larger across the case than the 41 mm size Timex highlights for Deepwater, though the available figures do not establish a complete fit comparison: check the chosen Timex model’s dimensions, including lug-to-lug, before deciding. The Duro’s listed resin band and mineral glass contrast with materials highlighted on some Deepwater references, including sapphire and, on the Titanium Automatic, grade 2 titanium. Confirm the details for the specific model you are considering.

What do the water-resistance ratings mean?

Casio lists the MDV-106-1AV at 200 m. Timex’s guidance for its 200 m category includes washing hands, light swimming, snorkelling, poolside diving, surfing and recreational scuba diving. This is manufacturer guidance, not evidence of professional dive certification or a guarantee of performance regardless of condition. Follow the manual for the exact watch. Timex also cautions: “To maintain water resistance, do not press any buttons under water unless your watch is indicated as 200m water-resistant.” Timex water-resistance guidance

Which one should you choose?

  • Choose the Duro configuration if you want a simple 200 m quartz watch and prefer its listed materials and design. Make sure you distinguish the resin-band MDV-106-1AV from the heavier bracelet MDV106DD-1A1.
  • Consider a particular Deepwater if its specific materials, complication or automatic movement matter enough to justify its listed price. Check the reference for water-resistance tier, crystal, movement, case dimensions and band.
  • For either watch, compare the exact model reference and intended use rather than assuming that every watch in a collection shares the same specification.

Without comparative hands-on testing and a stated scoring method, there is no evidence-based basis to declare either collection objectively better.
