Does the Casio GBX-100 show tide times?
Yes. The GBX-100 can display a 12-hour or 24-hour tide graph, high- and low-tide times and levels, and tide-cycle information. The exact tide details shown depend on the selected app or preset-port method described in Casio’s Operation Guide 3482.
Casio says its phone-linked tide information covers approximately 3,300 global points, while the watch has 50 selectable preset tide points. These are different selection options: the app-supported pool is larger than the watch’s preset memory. Casio describes the display as reference information, and its manual says not to use it for maritime navigation.
How do you set the tide location on a GBX-100?
Casio’s product information describes using the connected phone app to set tide information. The watch also supports selection from its 50 preset points. The precise app screens and phone compatibility can change; Casio’s published material cited here does not establish current app behavior for every phone, operating system, or region.

Is the G-Shock GBX-100 good for surfing?
Its feature set is aimed at surf and beach use: tide charts, moon age and phase, sunrise and sunset information, and a 200-meter water-resistance rating. It also has training functions that calculate distance, speed, and pace, along with lap timing, auto-pause, target alerts, and customizable displays. Casio describes its high-resolution MIP LCD as designed to show data-rich graphics and numbers.
Those specifications do not establish how readable the screen is while surfing, how comfortable the watch feels on a particular wrist, or whether its tide information matches observed conditions at a particular break. The case measures 50.9 × 46 × 14.7 mm and weighs 66 g; those figures help assess its size on paper, but comfort requires an individual fit check. The construction includes resin and stainless steel, with mineral glass.

How accurate is the GBX-100 tide graph?
Casio identifies the tide information as a reference display, and the Operation Guide expressly warns against using it for maritime navigation. The cited official material provides no measured accuracy figure for the tide graph. For decisions that affect safety, use appropriate local marine information and judgment rather than relying on the watch.
The watch also calculates sunrise and sunset internally. Casio warns that these results may contain errors, especially at higher latitudes, and that no result may be shown outside 65° south to 65° north. This is a separate limitation from the tide graph’s reference-only warning.

What else does the GBX-100 do?
Beyond tide and sunrise/sunset displays, Casio lists moon information, 38 world-time zones, automatic time adjustment, phone finder, notifications, activity history, and life-log data. Bluetooth links the watch to a phone for supported functions. The training calculations use accelerometer data; they include distance, speed, pace, lap timing, auto-pause, target alerts, and display customization. These functions broaden its role beyond a tide display, but they do not change the safety limits on the tide information.
What battery does the Casio GBX-100 use?
The watch uses one CR2032 battery. Casio estimates approximately two years under the usage pattern in its Quick Reference Manual 3482, published March 2025. Its example includes 12 hours per day of Bluetooth linking, two hours per week of training, 20 notifications per day, daily illumination, an alarm, step counting, and display operation. Actual battery life can be shorter with heavier use.

Availability and model identity
Casio identifies GBX-100-2 as a G-LIDE model and labels it an “Old Model” on its global product page. Availability can therefore vary by market and seller. Check that a listing is for the exact GBX-100-2 reference and color, and review the seller, condition, return terms, and local warranty before buying.
Casio Singapore’s support page lists a notice dated November 12, 2020, titled “Notice of recovery / Failures of tide functions” for GBX-100 users. The page establishes that the notice existed, but the available information cited here does not establish affected serial ranges, cause, or current failure prevalence. It is not enough to infer that GBX-100 watches generally have a present-day tide-function defect.
