The Seiko Presage Style 60s SRPH93J1, SRPH95J1 and SSA453J1 share a 40.8 mm case, box-shaped Hardlex crystal, screw-down see-through case back and 5 bar water resistance, according to Seiko’s 2022 brochure. Their clearest mechanical distinction is the movement: the SRPH93J1 and SRPH95J1 use automatic caliber 4R35, while the SSA453J1 uses 4R39 and an open-heart display. Seiko positions the collection as a contemporary take on the design of its 1964 Crown Chronograph.
How the three Style 60s models differ
The most useful way to distinguish these references is by movement and dial presentation, then by the model-specific color and bracelet details that Seiko confirms. The brochure covers all three models’ core specifications, but it does not establish every dial or strap detail for every reference.
| Reference | Movement and display | Officially identified design details | Shared specifications in Seiko’s 2022 brochure |
|---|---|---|---|
| SRPH93J1 | Automatic 4R35; date model | UK boutique calls it “Ruby”: red bezel, off-white dial and stainless steel bracelet. | 40.8 mm case; box-shaped Hardlex glass; screw see-through case back; 5 bar water resistance. |
| SRPH95J1 | Automatic 4R35; date model | Included in the Style 60s collection. The cited brochure does not establish this reference’s specific color or bracelet configuration. | 40.8 mm case; box-shaped Hardlex glass; screw see-through case back; 5 bar water resistance. |
| SSA453J1 | Automatic 4R39; open-heart styling | UK boutique calls it “Denim.” Seiko describes open-heart styling for the SSA family. | 40.8 mm case; box-shaped Hardlex glass; screw see-through case back; 5 bar water resistance. |
Seiko lists the movements and common specifications in its 2022 Presage brochure. The model-specific Ruby identification comes from the official UK SRPH93J1 page; Denim is identified on the official UK SSA453J1 page.
Movement and display: 4R35 versus 4R39
SRPH93J1 and SRPH95J1: automatic 4R35
Both SRPH references are listed with Seiko’s automatic 4R35. The brochure identifies them as the date-equipped movement option in this comparison. Their shared caliber makes them the straightforward choice if you prefer a conventional dial layout over a visible balance-area opening.

SSA453J1: automatic 4R39 with open heart
The SSA453J1 is listed with automatic caliber 4R39. Seiko’s regional collection description explains the SSA family’s open-heart design: an aperture in the dial reveals part of the movement. This is a display difference, not evidence that the watch is more accurate, durable or technically superior to the 4R35 models.
Seiko describes the open-heart approach on its regional Style 60s collection page. The sources cited here do not provide a comparative test of the movements’ accuracy or long-term performance.

Design story: a modern take on the 1964 Crown Chronograph
Seiko says the Style 60s series takes inspiration from its 1964 Crown Chronograph and combines that watch’s vintage design with contemporary elements. Seiko also describes the Crown Chronograph as “Seiko’s and Japan’s first wristwatch equipped with a stopwatch function”; that historical characterization is the manufacturer’s account. The connection explains the collection’s retro styling, but it does not mean these three watches are chronographs.

Case, crystal and water resistance
For SRPH93J1, SRPH95J1 and SSA453J1, Seiko’s 2022 brochure lists the same 40.8 mm case diameter, box-shaped Hardlex glass, screw see-through case back and 5 bar water resistance. These are manufacturer specifications, not independently measured results. The shared figures establish a common baseline, but they do not show that the watches are identical in every dimension or detail.
A 5 bar rating is a stated water-resistance specification, not a guarantee for every activity or for a watch whose seals have aged or been disturbed. The cited material does not provide activity-specific guidance for these references; consult Seiko’s instructions and have water resistance checked if the watch’s condition is uncertain.

Which reference makes sense for you?
- Choose SRPH93J1 if the officially identified Ruby treatment—red bezel, off-white dial and stainless steel bracelet—is the look you want, and you prefer the 4R35 date layout.
- Consider SRPH95J1 if you want the 4R35 version but are comparing another Style 60s reference. The cited brochure confirms its movement and common specifications, but not its specific color or bracelet configuration.
- Choose SSA453J1 if you want the Denim model identification and the SSA family’s open-heart presentation, powered by the 4R39.
None of these specifications establishes a winner for accuracy, comfort, finishing, lume, bracelet quality or value. Those judgments require evidence beyond the manufacturer specifications and retailer descriptions cited here.
