What is the GWG-1000-1A3?
The GWG-1000-1A3 is a Mudmaster in Casio’s G-Shock line, built around a large analog-digital display and a set of outdoor-oriented sensors. Casio’s official model page lists its functions and specifications. Casio’s Mudmaster series page identifies the GWG-1000 as an older model, so it should not be presented as the line’s current flagship.
The exact model matters: the GWG-1000-1A3 is not the GWG-100 or GG-1000. Similar names and Mudmaster styling do not make their specifications interchangeable.

How useful are the sensors?
Compass
The digital compass displays direction at one of 16 points and gives a 0–359° reading in 1° units. Casio also lists a north hand indication, bidirectional calibration and magnetic declination correction. Those functions provide more detail than a simple directional marker, though the listed feature set alone does not establish real-world accuracy.
Altimeter
The altimeter’s stated measuring range is −700 to 10,000 metres. Casio lists manual storage for up to 30 measurements, plus automatic logging of high and low altitudes and cumulative ascent and descent. The range describes what the watch can display; it is not a promise of accuracy at every elevation. As with wrist altimeters generally, readings depend on atmospheric pressure and may need calibration or correction as weather changes.

Barometer and thermometer
The barometer displays 260–1,100 hPa and includes a pressure-tendency graph and tendency alarm. The thermometer’s display range is −10 to 60°C. Since these sensors sit on a watch worn against the body, temperature readings can be influenced by body heat; removing the watch and allowing it to acclimate can help when an ambient reading matters. Casio’s specifications do not provide an independent accuracy evaluation for these sensors.
Power and timekeeping
Tough Solar charges the watch from light, while Multi Band 6 radio reception adjusts time from supported broadcast signals. The combination reduces reliance on routine battery changes and manual time correction when the watch can receive a signal. Radio reception is not guaranteed everywhere: local transmitter coverage and reception conditions matter, so the feature should not be treated as universal automatic synchronization.

Build and protection: what Casio claims
Casio lists the watch as shock resistant, mud resistant, vibration resistant and water resistant to 200 metres, with a sapphire crystal carrying an anti-reflective coating. Its technology feature page describes a cylindrical guard structure and gasket-lined button shafts intended to impede dust and mud while helping alleviate shocks. Casio also describes αGEL beneath and around the module to protect against vibration-related malfunctions, and washers at the lug screws intended to help prevent vibration from loosening the band.
These are Casio’s design descriptions, not evidence of independently verified performance in a particular environment. The brand’s series page says the structure is “Built to prevent intrusion by sand, mud or dust and to ensure reliable operation in the harshest environments, this tough structure is prepared to support training and actual missions in environments such as jungles and deserts.” That is manufacturer positioning, not a third-party test finding.

Fit and everyday wear
At 18 mm thick, 56.7 mm across and 119 g, the GWG-1000-1A3 takes up considerable space on the wrist. Those dimensions can be a drawback under close-fitting sleeves or for anyone who prefers a low-profile watch. The published measurements are more useful than calling it comfortable or uncomfortable: fit depends on wrist size, strap adjustment and personal preference, and no independent wear assessment is established here.
The resin band and mixed resin/stainless-steel case and bezel keep the construction aligned with an outdoor instrument rather than a dress watch. Sapphire with anti-reflective coating is a premium crystal specification, but the product listing does not quantify scratch resistance or glare reduction in use.
