Casio said the series comprised 400 watches and describes the model as an old model on its official product page, so current factory availability should not be assumed.
What makes the Hana-Basara distinctive?
Casio built the Hana-Basara around the idea of “Basara,” which the company describes as a term of respect for samurai commanders whose strength was matched by a bold, lavish style. Casio says it commissioned a suit of armor as a design reference, then carried that influence into the watch’s colors, bezel and dial. This is Casio’s account of the design concept, rather than independently verified historical research. Casio’s 8 September 2021 editorial identifies Shingo Ishizaka as a key MR-G R&D engineer and Kazuhito Komatsu as the artisan who finished the bezel.
A 24-facet bezel with an artisan finish
The bezel is made from COBARION, a cobalt-chrome alloy, and cut into 24 facets. Casio says Komatsu individually finished the bezels, describing a painstaking process: “Working as a jeweler on this ultra-hard alloy limits production to a few pieces per day in an intricate process that elevates metal design to an art form.” The statement and production description are Casio’s, not an independent production audit. Casio’s official MRG-B2000BS-3A page says COBARION is about four times harder than pure titanium.
Armor references in color and texture
The dark-green DLC finish evokes kurogane-iro, or “iron color,” while the case has a brown AIP finish. The dial’s woven pattern references chainmail, with other details intended to echo armor colors and sword forms. Taken together, these choices give the watch a darker, more martial character than a conventional polished-metal dress watch; the connection is a design interpretation attributed to Casio. Casio’s model page and MR-G feature page describe these design elements.

How many were made?
Casio’s G-SHOCK Singapore editorial dated 8 September 2021 says the series comprised 400 watches. That is the figure published by Casio; the sources cited here do not independently verify the production count. The official product page now labels the MRG-B2000BS-3A an “old model,” which indicates it is not presented as a current model, but does not establish whether any retailer still has stock. Materials and finishes
The watch combines a COBARION bezel with a DAT55G titanium-alloy case and band. Casio describes DAT55G as about three times harder than pure titanium. Those hardness comparisons are manufacturer-published figures, not independent tests; hardness also does not by itself establish how a finished watch will resist scratches in everyday use. The dark-green DLC and brown AIP finishes provide the model’s contrasting armor-inspired palette. Casio product specifications.

Casio identifies the MRG-B2000B-1A “Kachi-Iro” as a related model. The distinction established in Casio’s material is primarily visual: Kachi-Iro has a metallic navy-blue theme, while Hana-Basara uses dark green and armor-inspired details. The cited sources do not establish a functional advantage or a price-value comparison between them. Casio’s MR-G feature page.
