The Casio G-Shock MRG-B5000B-1DR takes the familiar square G-SHOCK shape and gives it a premium, mostly titanium construction, black DLC finish and metal bracelet. It is not all titanium: its bezel top is cobalt-chromium alloy, and Casio specifies multiple titanium alloys across the case, bezel and band. Its 49.4 × 43.2 × 12.9 mm dimensions, 114 g weight and feature set make it a substantial, specification-rich alternative to a resin square—not simply the same watch with a metal strap.
What is the MRG-B5000B-1DR?
It is Casio’s black MR-G interpretation of the original square G-SHOCK design. The brick-pattern dial and red line are references to the original square, while the metal case and bracelet, layered bezel and black finish distinguish this version from resin-strap squares. Casio says MR-G watches are made on the Premium Production Line at Yamagata Casio; that is a manufacturer statement, not an independent assessment of quality.
The UK product page uses the full MRG-B5000B-1DR name. Regional pages may omit the “DR” suffix. The black B model should also not be confused with the metallic-finish MRG-B5000D or the blue-accented MRG-B5000BA.
What is the MRG-B5000B made of?
“Titanium” is a useful shorthand, but not a complete materials description. Casio specifies a Ti64-based titanium alloy case and bezel, a DAT55G titanium-alloy band, and a COBARION cobalt-chromium-alloy top bezel. The B model’s black exterior uses a diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating. Casio contrasts that finish with the metallic titanium-carbide finish on the MRG-B5000D. The watch also has sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating.

Casio describes the bezel as 25 separately polished components and says its Multi-Guard Structure uses a multi-part construction. The company’s launch announcement says COBARION is four times harder than pure titanium and DAT55G is three times harder than pure titanium. Those are Casio-published material claims, not independent scratch-test results; they do not establish that the finished watch is scratch-proof.
How big and heavy is it?
Casio UK lists dimensions of 49.4 × 43.2 × 12.9 mm and a weight of 114 g. The watch has a solid titanium band and a tight-lock, one-press, three-fold clasp. Those figures can help you judge whether the square’s footprint and metal-bracelet weight suit your preferences, but they cannot predict how it will sit on a particular wrist. Trying it on is the best way to assess fit.

Features and timekeeping
The specification combines the familiar G-SHOCK durability features with several ways to keep time set:
- Shock resistance and 200-metre water resistance, as specified by Casio.
- Tough Solar charging, with Casio’s approximate rechargeable-battery operation figures of 10 months after a full charge with no further light exposure under normal use, or 22 months in darkness with power saving enabled. These are manufacturer estimates, not independently measured results.
- Multi Band 6 radio time calibration and Bluetooth Mobile Link through the CASIO WATCHES app.
- Sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, plus a screw-lock back.
- World time, stopwatch, countdown timer, five daily alarms, LED illumination, full auto-calendar and power saving.
Radio calibration and Bluetooth are distinct features: the watch can receive time-calibration signals, and it can also connect to a phone through the app. The exact availability and usefulness of radio reception depend on the region and whether a supported signal can be received; Bluetooth pairing requires a compatible phone and app.

How does it differ from a standard G-SHOCK square?
The main difference is not the square outline but the materials and execution. A typical resin square is lighter and uses a strap; the MRG-B5000B-1DR uses a multi-material metal case and bracelet, a layered bezel and DLC-coated black surfaces. It also includes solar charging, radio calibration and Bluetooth Mobile Link. For a meaningful comparison with another square, check its actual material, dimensions, weight, time-setting features, water-resistance rating and local price rather than assuming all squares share the same specification.
Is the Casio MRG-B5000B worth it?
It is most compelling for someone who specifically wants the original square design in a finely finished metal bracelet watch, with solar charging and both radio and Bluetooth time-setting functions. Its appeal is less clear if you mainly want a light, inexpensive everyday G-SHOCK: this is a 114 g metal watch, and its premium construction is central to what you are paying for. The specifications establish what Casio builds into it, but they cannot establish personal comfort, long-term durability or scratch performance.
