How the materials and construction differ
MRG-D5000: titanium and blue sapphire
Casio lists titanium and sapphire crystal for the MRG-D5000’s case and bezel materials, and a Dura Soft rubber strap rather than a metal bracelet. The titanium portions receive DLC treatment, and the watch has a screw-lock back. Casio’s announcement describes the bezel as entirely rendered in blue sapphire crystal.
#1 Best Overall
The sapphire components make the case structure a central part of this model’s identity. Casio says its Multi-Guard Structure uses multiple components assembled without screws that could cause sapphire to crack. The company describes the MRG-D5000 as the first G-SHOCK to achieve a shock-resistant structure using blue sapphire crystal components. Casio’s announcement attributes that statement to the company.
GMW-B5000: stainless steel with resin cushioning
GMW-B5000 is a family of stainless-steel watches, not one fixed configuration. Casio says resin cushioning parts sit between the bezel/case and inner case to preserve shock resistance in the full-metal construction. It also describes redesigned band connectors. Finishes and other particulars depend on the exact reference, so a comparison with a specific GMW-B5000 should use that model’s own specifications.

Shared core features
Casio lists both the MRG-D5000 and the GMW-B5000 series with shock resistance, solar charging, Multiband 6 radio control and 200-meter water resistance. The MRG-D5000 page calls its charging system Gallium Tough Solar; the GMW-B5000 series page calls its Tough Solar.

GMW-B5000 features and the Bluetooth distinction
Casio lists Bluetooth smartphone connectivity and world time for 39 cities on the GMW-B5000 series page, alongside Multiband 6 and Tough Solar. The MRG-D5000 product page reviewed here does not list Bluetooth. That difference is about what the pages document; it does not establish that the MRG-D5000 cannot connect. Likewise, a series-page feature should be checked against the exact GMW-B5000 reference before treating it as a specification for every variant.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Size, weight and fit: check the exact GMW reference
Casio gives the MRG-D5000 dimensions as 51.1 × 43.2 × 16.5 mm and its weight as 121 g. The reviewed GMW-B5000 series page does not provide a single size or weight for the whole family, and the accessible text for the GMW-B5000D-1 page did not expose those figures. A precise size or weight comparison therefore requires the full specification for the particular GMW-B5000 reference under consideration. Casio’s GMW-B5000D-1 page is one model-specific reference page.

Which one suits your priorities?
- Choose the MRG-D5000 as the closer fit if you want titanium with blue sapphire, a rubber strap, and the sapphire-focused Multi-Guard construction. Its announced 20-piece worldwide edition and December 2026 product timing are important constraints.
- Consider a GMW-B5000 if you want the stainless-steel full-metal approach and prefer to choose among a series of references. Compare the exact variant’s band, finish, dimensions, weight and listed functions rather than assuming every GMW-B5000 is identical.
- For either watch, verify the model-specific specifications and current price, release timing, stock and availability in your market before making a purchase decision.
