The Casio G-Shock Nano DWN-5600 is a real digital watch built into a ring-sized version of the classic square G-Shock—not a decorative replica or a connected smart ring. It keeps time, shows calendar and dual-time information, and includes a stopwatch, but its tiny display and light-based alarm make it a collectible accessory rather than a practical replacement for a wristwatch.
What the DWN-5600 Nano actually does
Casio miniaturized the square 5600 design around a working digital module. The DWN-5600 uses module 3592, according to Hodinkee’s February 24, 2026 hands-on. Its six-digit LCD supports timekeeping, calendar, dual time, and a 1/100-second stopwatch. It also has an auto-calendar, 12/24-hour time display, three physical buttons, an LED backlight, and an alarm-linked pulsing light. Casio describes the design and functions on its official DWN-5600 product page.
That is a substantial set of functions for a ring, but the scale changes how useful they are. Checking the time takes more attention than glancing at a wristwatch, and the small buttons may be awkward to press. Casio also notes that the LED may be difficult to see in bright conditions.
The alarm is a light, not a conventional audible alert
The alarm feature is easy to misunderstand. In the hands-on report, it is not a normal audible watch alarm: the ring flashes or pulses its light at a set time, and the feature can also be used at the top of each hour. Casio presents Time Flash as an entertainment-oriented function. Treat it as a playful effect, not a dependable way to wake yourself or receive an alert you cannot miss.

How small is it, and how does the fit work?
Hodinkee reports a case of about 20 mm, an end-to-end length of about 23.4 mm, and a height of about 7.5 mm. The reported adjustment range is approximately 48–82 mm around the finger. That broad range comes from a flexible miniature strap with multiple holes and a metal tang buckle, rather than a fixed-size metal ring.
Fit is personal. Finger circumference can change with heat, exercise, humidity, and time of day; a strap that feels fine in the morning may become tight later. Measure the intended finger at more than one time of day and choose a fit that neither pinches nor lets the watch head rotate freely. A ring watch also puts a small case where it can meet desks, handles, tools, and other objects. Consider whether that placement suits your normal work and activities before wearing it around equipment.

The case is small enough that pressing its controls may take a fingernail or careful positioning. People with reduced dexterity, gloves, or wet hands may find operation particularly fiddly. The display is similarly constrained: readers who need a large, quickly legible screen are better served by a regular wristwatch.
A miniature 5600, not a one-tenth-scale specification sheet
The DWN-5600 carries over the square bezel, digital-watch layout, and strap styling associated with the 5600 family. Casio describes it as approximately one-tenth the size of the original concept, but that should be read as a broad miniaturization description—not a claim that every linear measurement is exactly one-tenth of a standard DW-5600.

Casio specifies a glass-fiber-reinforced resin case, a urethane bezel, and stainless-steel buttons, buckle, and case-back components. Bio-based resin is used in key bezel and band components. The construction is designed to preserve the 5600’s protective identity in a much smaller format; Casio’s international launch page lists the DWN-5600 for shipment in November 2025.
How tough is a ring-sized G-Shock?
Casio rates the DWN-5600 as shock resistant and water resistant to 20 bar, equivalent to the company’s stated 200-meter rating. Those are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results. Water resistance is not the same as being invulnerable, and the rating does not establish that every kind of impact, snag, chemical exposure, or wear pattern is safe for a finger-mounted watch.

Battery work is another reason to be careful. The battery is replaceable, but opening a watch can affect its sealing if the gasket is disturbed or the case is not closed correctly. Before relying on the water-resistance rating after replacement, confirm service options and sealing checks with Casio or a qualified watch technician.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Battery, colors, and presentation
Hodinkee reports an approximately two-year battery life and says the battery can be replaced by removing the case-back plate. That estimate is attributed to the hands-on report; it is not a guarantee of the interval every owner will experience. Casio likewise says the battery is replaceable despite the miniature construction. Specific battery availability and local service procedures are not established here, so confirm compatibility and service support rather than assuming any jeweler can handle the module.

The initial colors are black (DWN-5600-1), red (DWN-5600-4), and yellow (DWN-5600-9). Casio packages the watch with a silicone display stand shaped like the G-Shock “G” logo. The stand and presentation add collector appeal, but they do not change the watch’s everyday legibility or utility.
DWN-5600 Nano vs. a standard DW-5600 vs. CRW-001
These are different kinds of purchases: the Nano prioritizes miniature G-Shock identity, the standard square is the more practical watch, and the CRW-001 is Casio’s earlier ring-watch alternative. Standard 5600 specifications vary by model, so the comparison below avoids treating the whole family as identical.
| Consideration | DWN-5600 Nano | Standard DW-5600 | Casio CRW-001 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Format and fit | Ring watch with an adjustable miniature strap; reported 48–82 mm fit range (Hodinkee). | Wristwatch; exact dimensions and fit depend on model. | Earlier full-metal Casio ring watch; uses a more limited sizing system and spacers, according to Hodinkee. |
| Readability and operation | Tiny LCD and controls; less convenient for quick checks. | Conventional wristwatch display and controls; substantially easier to read and operate. | Ring-watch format; not interchangeable with the Nano’s G-Shock strap design. |
| Functions and toughness | Time, calendar, dual time, 1/100-second stopwatch, light, and pulsing alarm light; Casio states shock resistance and 20-bar water resistance. | Features vary across the 5600 family; some versions offer options such as Tough Solar, Bluetooth, or Multi Band 6. | Different product and styling; the DWN-5600 is the G-Shock-styled, flexible-strap option. |
| Price evidence | $110 reported as the U.S. price by Hodinkee on February 24, 2026; current price and availability can vary. | Current price varies by model and retailer. | Current price varies; not stated in the cited product material. |
Casio’s 5600/5000 family guide is useful if you want a conventional square with a specific upgrade such as solar charging or connectivity; those options belong to particular full-size models, not the DWN-5600. For the CRW-001 and Nano family context, see Casio’s G-Shock Nano collection.
Is the $110 reported U.S. price justified?
Hodinkee reported a U.S. price of $110 in its February 24, 2026 hands-on. That figure is tied to the U.S. and that report date; prices and availability may differ by region or change over time. At that price, the case for buying is the unusual engineering, the recognizable 5600 styling, and the pleasure of wearing a functioning G-Shock as a ring—not superior everyday timekeeping.
- It makes sense if you collect Casio or G-Shock, enjoy unusual accessories, already have a practical watch, or value the miniaturization as much as the functions.
- Look elsewhere if you need quick readability, an audible alarm, solar charging, phone connectivity, or fitness features. A standard 5600-series model is the practical direction; choose by its exact specifications rather than assuming every variant is the same.
- Think carefully if your routine involves machinery, tools, sports equipment, or frequent hand contact with hard surfaces. A shock-resistance specification does not remove the fit and snagging considerations of wearing a case on a finger.
Verdict
The DWN-5600 succeeds because Casio made the miniature more than a shell: it is a working digital watch with a real display, buttons, stopwatch, and manufacturer-stated G-Shock protection. But the tiny interface, light-based alarm, and finger-worn format make it a statement piece first and a timekeeping tool second. Buy it for the cleverness and character; do not expect it to outperform a regular square G-Shock at the job of telling time.
