Casio announced the MRG-D5000 on October 1, 2026: an MR-G whose bezel and case use blue sapphire crystal components in a screwless multi-part structure. The worldwide limited edition is restricted to 20 pieces. It is not an all-sapphire watch: Casio also specifies titanium components and a Dura Soft rubber strap.
What makes the MRG-D5000 unusual?
Casio describes the construction as its MR-G Multi-Guard Structure. The bezel and case are assembled from multiple components without screws that, Casio says, could crack the sapphire crystal. The company says it analyzed the forces transmitted to sapphire during impact to optimize the structure; that is Casio’s design explanation, not an independent impact-test report. Casio’s G-SHOCK product page says the design draws on kigumi, traditional Japanese timber-frame construction that uses interlocking joints rather than screws or nails.

Blue sapphire crystal is used for structural components, while the case and bezel materials are listed as titanium and sapphire crystal. The strap is Dura Soft rubber, with a brick pattern and a one-touch three-fold clasp. Casio’s product page also describes a specially developed titanium clasp and a grade-5 titanium alloy case back with an embedded blue sapphire crystal. The sapphire glass has an anti-reflective coating; the titanium portion receives DLC treatment.

How it differs from Casio’s other sapphire announcements
Casio’s October 1 announcement also names two other watches with blue sapphire details, but they are distinct models with different construction:
| Model | Sapphire use described by Casio | Collection |
|---|---|---|
| MRG-D5000 | Sapphire components in the case and bezel structure | MR-G |
| MRG-B5000SA | Two-carat facet-cut blue sapphire crystals at the top and bottom of the case | MR-G |
| GMW-B5000SB | Sapphire stones at four points on the bezel | Full-metal G-SHOCK |
Casio confirms a 20-piece worldwide edition for the MRG-D5000; the announcement does not establish matching edition sizes or sales terms for the other two models. Details about all three are in Casio’s October 1, 2026 announcement.
