The TRN-50SS revisits the original Casiotron QW02 in a smaller, lighter design with 50-meter water resistance; the full-metal GMW-B5000SS-2 applies blue-and-gold anniversary details to the classic G-SHOCK shape and has 20-bar water resistance. Casio announced the collection on May 21, 2024, and released it in Japan on June 7, 2024. The published specifications establish their differences on paper, but do not establish how either watch feels or performs during wear.
How the two anniversary watches differ
Both models use blue and gold accents, but they draw on different chapters of Casio history. The TRN-50SS follows the Casiotron TRN-50 and references the QW02, Casio’s first wristwatch. The GMW-B5000SS-2 starts with the full-metal GMW-B5000, which carries the form of the first G-SHOCK.

What the TRN-50SS brings
A Casiotron anniversary design
The TRN-50SS takes its design from the TRN-50, itself a modern reference to the Casiotron QW02. Casio’s announcement identifies the QW02 as its first wristwatch, released in 1974. The anniversary treatment includes a gold clasp fold and a triangle motif inspired by the original watch’s case back.

Which one fits your priorities?
- Choose by design lineage: the TRN-50SS is the Casiotron-focused choice; the GMW-B5000SS-2 is the anniversary version of the full-metal G-SHOCK form.
- Compare the stated dimensions and mass: the TRN-50SS is listed at approximately 111 g and 42.7 × 39.1 × 12.3 mm; the GMW-B5000SS-2 at 167 g and 49.3 × 43.2 × 13 mm. Those figures establish a size and weight difference, not which will feel better on a particular wrist.
- Check the water-resistance rating against your needs: Casio lists 50 m for the TRN-50SS and 20 bar for the GMW-B5000SS-2. The ratings are expressed differently, so do not treat the numbers as identical units.
- For time setting and charging, both list Bluetooth connectivity and Tough Solar; the GMW-B5000SS-2 additionally names Multiband 6, while the TRN-50SS announcement describes radio time reception.
