Casio × Back to the Future CA-500WEBF-1A: What the 40th-Anniversary Calculator Watch Does

Casio’s CA-500WEBF-1A turns the familiar CA-500 calculator watch into a licensed Back to the Future collectible, with DeLorean-inspired details, time-circuit colors, and VHS-style packaging. Here are the real specifications, release information, and availability caveats.

Casio’s CA-500WEBF-1A is a real, licensed Back to the Future collaboration watch—not the original movie prop and not a new electronic time machine. It takes Casio’s existing CA-500 calculator-watch format and applies a DeLorean-inspired design package for the film’s 40th anniversary in 2025.

The appeal is therefore visual and nostalgic: colored time-circuit-style buttons, a display inspired by the film’s destination dates, a flux-capacitor caseback, a logo-engraved clasp, and VHS-style packaging. Underneath that treatment is still a straightforward quartz digital watch with an eight-digit calculator, stopwatch, alarm, dual time, and a basic resin construction.

What is the Casio CA-500WEBF-1A?

The CA-500WEBF-1A is a Casio Vintage digital calculator wristwatch made in collaboration with Back to the Future. The film was released in 1985, so the watch marks the franchise’s 40th anniversary in 2025.

Casio describes it as a reimagined CA-500 styled like a miniature DeLorean time machine. That description is important: this is a themed version of an established Casio watch platform, rather than a completely new module or a faithful replica of a watch worn in the movie.

The connection to the film is also best understood as a licensed tribute. Casio’s campaign refers to the calculator-watch legacy associated with Marty McFly, but it does not present the CA-500WEBF-1A as the actual watch used during filming. There is no movie-specific time-travel mechanism, functional flux capacitor, or electronic time-circuit system inside the watch.

The design is the reason to buy it

Casio has made the collaboration work through a collection of small details rather than one oversized logo. The result is more distinctive than an ordinary CA-500 because the face, controls, caseback, clasp, and box all contribute to the same theme.

DeLorean-inspired face

The polished silver-colored case and retro-futurist detailing are intended to evoke Doc Brown’s DeLorean. The styling translates the car’s brushed-metal, science-fiction aesthetic into a compact calculator-watch case.

Colored time-circuit buttons

The differently colored buttons reference the DeLorean’s time-circuit controls—the controls used to enter a destination date and time in the film. They are functional watch buttons, however, not a set of controls for entering a real destination in time.

Destination-date display motif

The dial takes inspiration from the film’s destination readouts, including the recognizable years 1955, 1985, and 2015. These dates are part of the visual language of the display. They do not mean the watch can display or calculate time travel, and they should not be confused with a movie-accurate electronic time circuit.

Flux-capacitor caseback

The caseback is engraved with the fictional flux capacitor, the device that enables the DeLorean to travel through time. This is one of the details that gives the watch collector appeal even when it is not being worn.

Logo-engraved clasp

The stainless-steel band has an adjustable clasp engraved with the Back to the Future logo. It is a quieter reference than the colored face, but it helps make the whole package feel deliberate rather than like a standard CA-500 with a logo added to the dial.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

VHS-inspired presentation

The packaging is designed to resemble a vintage videotape and includes film-related imagery. For a collector, this matters: the product is presented as a display piece as much as a timekeeping tool.

What the watch actually does

The CA-500WEBF-1A uses Casio’s module 3558, the same basic operating platform documented for the CA-500 family. Its practical features are familiar and intentionally simple.

  • Calculator: The eight-digit calculator handles addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. It is a fun retro function and can handle quick basic arithmetic, but it is not a replacement for a phone or full-featured calculator.
  • Stopwatch: The 1/100-second stopwatch supports elapsed-time, split-time, and first- and second-place timing modes. Its maximum measuring capacity is 23 hours, 59 minutes, 59.99 seconds.
  • Timekeeping: You can choose a 12-hour or 24-hour display and use dual time for a second time zone.
  • Alarm: The watch includes a daily alarm and an hourly time signal.
  • Calendar: The full automatic calendar runs through 2099.
  • Sound: Button tones can be turned on or off.

Casio’s published specifications do not identify a backlight, Bluetooth, GPS, solar charging, or smartwatch capability. The CA-500WEBF-1A should be treated as a conventional quartz digital watch with a calculator, not as a connected or high-tech wearable.

Water resistance and materials: set expectations correctly

The case and bezel are resin, and the crystal is resin glass. That keeps the watch in the lightweight, affordable calculator-watch tradition, but it is not the material specification of a premium metal watch with mineral or sapphire crystal.

Casio lists the watch as water resistant. The related module guidance is more useful than that broad label: a watch marked only WATER RESIST or WATER RESISTANT is suitable for ordinary exposure such as hand washing and rain, but not swimming or diving.

That limitation is particularly relevant if the case is opened for battery work. The watch uses a CR2016 cell and Casio estimates approximately five years of battery life under its usage assumptions. Owners who need the case opened, resealed, or inspected should use Casio’s repair service or a qualified watchmaker rather than assuming a do-it-yourself battery change will preserve the watch’s water resistance.

Release dates, regional versions, and pricing

The exact model designation varies by market:

  • CA-500WEBF-1A: the designation used for the U.S. model and in the main product discussion.
  • CA-500WEBF-1AER: the European regional designation.

Casio’s European corporate announcement dated October 14, 2025, said the CA-500WEBF-1AER would be available from October 22, 2025, online and through select retailers, at a recommended retail price of €119.00.

Casio UK listed October 21, 2025 as the official release date for the CA-500WEBF-1A. Its support information also said that pre-orders and advance reservations were not available.

Those dates should not be collapsed into one universal launch date. Regional release schedules and model suffixes differ, and the European €119 price is not a confirmed U.S. MSRP.

Availability: limited edition does not mean numbered

Casio positions the watch as a limited edition, but its official material does not disclose a production total. There is also no basis for calling the watch individually numbered or serialized. The safest description is limited-edition calculator watch or Back to the Future collaboration watch.

For the United States, Casio America’s support article, updated November 13, 2025, said the watch sold out within minutes of launch because of high demand. The U.S. product page remained accessible at the time of the research check, but it showed the model and imagery without a current price or visible transaction details. An accessible product page should therefore not be mistaken for confirmed in-stock retail inventory.

Casio China listed the model at ¥990 and marked it sold out. That is a China-market price and should not be converted directly into a U.S. price.

A secondary marketplace database lists a U.S. retail price of $135 and a release date of October 21, 2025. Because that figure was not confirmed on the accessible Casio America page, it should be treated only as an attributed secondary reference—not as an official Casio U.S. MSRP.

If you are checking live marketplace inventory, start with the exact model phrase Casio CA-500WEBF-1A, then verify whether a listing is new, sealed, open-box, or used; who the seller is; whether the model is the correct regional version; and what the return terms are. Limited supply can make secondary-market prices volatile, and not every listing is necessarily authorized or priced at MSRP.

For the European model, Casio UK named F Hinds, First Class Watches, Goldsmiths, Selfridges, Pride and Pinion, Route One Retail, John Lewis, G-Shock London, and H. Samuel among selected retailers. Casio instructed shoppers to contact retailers directly for availability, but naming a retailer did not guarantee continuing stock.

Is it worth buying?

The answer depends on whether you are buying a calculator watch or a film collectible.

Buy it for the theme if you value:

  • The visual language of the DeLorean and its time-circuit controls.
  • A licensed anniversary product tied to a major 1980s film.
  • The combination of a functional Casio calculator watch and recognizable movie details.
  • Collector-friendly touches such as the flux-capacitor engraving, logo clasp, and VHS-style box.
  • A more distinctive alternative to a standard CA-500.

Think twice if you need:

  • Swimming or diving water resistance.
  • A metal case or scratch-resistant mineral or sapphire crystal.
  • Radio-controlled, GPS, or connected timekeeping.
  • Solar charging or smartwatch functions.
  • A large, modern calculator with more than basic arithmetic.
  • A guaranteed retail price after the initial launch period.

The strongest case for the CA-500WEBF-1A is not technical superiority. It is the accumulation of references: the silver DeLorean-inspired face, colored controls, destination-date motif, caseback engraving, branded clasp, and presentation box. Taken together, they turn an ordinary calculator-watch format into a wearable piece of Back to the Future memorabilia.

Collector alternatives and companions

If the watch is unavailable—or if you want a larger display piece—the film’s 40th-anniversary merchandise offers several adjacent options.

4K and Blu-ray collector set

Universal announced a Back to the Future 40th Anniversary 4K Trilogy Gift Set for 2025-10-14. The release line included 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and digital formats. The limited gift set included a flux-capacitor SteelBook, Gibson mini-guitar replica, OUTATIME metal license plate, a visual-history booklet, and replica items. Universal identified the U.S. gift-set UPC as an Amazon exclusive.

This is the most natural companion for someone buying the Casio primarily for franchise nostalgia: it provides the films and physical memorabilia, while the watch provides the wearable object. Price, stock, and exact bundle contents should be checked before purchase.

LEGO DeLorean alternative

The official U.S. LEGO shop lists LEGO Back to the Future Time Machine 10300 at $199.99. The set includes three movie configurations, a light-up flux capacitor, printed dashboard dates, Doc and Marty minifigures, and alternate details from the films.

It is not a substitute for the watch—the scale, purpose, and price are entirely different—but it is a strong alternative for collectors who care more about the DeLorean design than about wearing the collaboration.

Watch the film again

A U.S. JustWatch check dated August 10, 2026, listed where to watch Back to the Future through Philo and several Starz channels, with digital rental and purchase options through Amazon Video, Apple TV Store, and Fandango At Home. Streaming rights and prices change frequently, so those options must be rechecked immediately before publication or purchase.

Bottom line

The Casio CA-500WEBF-1A is best understood as a limited-edition Casio calculator watch dressed as a small DeLorean tribute. It does not reproduce the movie prop and it does not contain a real flux capacitor or time-circuit function. What it does offer is a coherent, licensed 40th-anniversary design with enough functional Casio hardware to remain a usable watch.

For a Back to the Future fan, the face, buttons, caseback, clasp, and VHS-style packaging make this substantially more interesting than a normal CA-500. For everyone else, the basic quartz specifications and uncertain post-launch availability make it a niche purchase whose value comes from the franchise connection rather than horological performance.

Source note: Product identity, design, specifications, release information, and availability statements are based on Casio corporate, product, support, and module documentation cited in the research dossier. The article includes no independent durability, accuracy, comfort, or battery-life testing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Casio CA-500WEBF-1A the watch used in Back to the Future?

No. It is a new, licensed Casio Vintage collaboration inspired by the calculator-watch association with Marty McFly and the DeLorean. It is not presented as the original movie-used watch or a replica of a specific film prop.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can the CA-500WEBF-1A actually time travel?

No. The colored buttons, destination-date display motif, and flux-capacitor engraving are design references. The watch has ordinary quartz timekeeping, a calculator, stopwatch, alarm, calendar, and dual-time functions.

Is the Casio Back to the Future watch numbered or serialized?

There is no official evidence in the cited material that it is individually numbered or serialized. Casio establishes limited-edition positioning but does not disclose a total production quantity.

Can I swim with the CA-500WEBF-1A?

You should not. Casio lists it as water resistant, while the related module guidance limits a watch marked only WATER RESIST or WATER RESISTANT to ordinary exposure such as hand washing and rain—not swimming or diving.

What battery does the Casio CA-500WEBF-1A use?

It uses one CR2016 lithium cell, with an approximate five-year life under Casio’s stated usage assumptions. If battery replacement requires opening and resealing the case, Casio service or a qualified watchmaker is the safer option.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Bottom Line

The CA-500WEBF-1A is a nostalgia-first collectible, not a high-tech timepiece. Its DeLorean-inspired face, colored time-circuit buttons, flux-capacitor caseback, logo clasp, and VHS-style packaging give the familiar CA-500 calculator watch a convincing Back to the Future identity. Just keep the limits clear: it is basic quartz, lightly water resistant, not numbered, and not confirmed to have a universal U.S. retail price or continuing stock.
