It pairs a Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement and 38-hour power reserve with a 150-metre water-resistance rating. Its dimensions are moderate, though at 13.05 mm thick it is not especially slim. The main appeal is its unusual case and vintage-inspired design; buyers should also assess the individual watch’s fit, dial execution and preferred strap or bracelet.
What makes the C65 Super Compressor different?
The two-crown arrangement separates timekeeping from bezel operation. The screw-down crown controls the movement, while the other turns the internal 120-click rotating bezel. Unlike an external bezel, the timing scale sits beneath the crystal and is adjusted from the side of the case.
The caseback is more than a view of the movement: it displays the anodised compression ring and spring assembly that give the watch its compressor design. In the broader Super Compressor concept, increasing external pressure engages the caseback against the spring, pressing it toward the gasket. That mechanism does not remove the watch’s stated pressure limit or replace appropriate dive equipment.
Christopher Ward’s official C65 Super Compressor manual specifies a water-resistance rating of 15 ATM, or 150 metres. It also says the timekeeping crown should sit flush with the case to maintain water resistance.

Specifications are from Christopher Ward’s manual for the original model; they should not be confused with those of the later C65 Super Compressor Elite. The Elite is a separate model, and its movement or other figures should not be carried over to this watch.
How it wears
At 41 mm across and 47.12 mm lug-to-lug, the case has dimensions that may suit someone seeking a substantial but not oversized retro diver. The 13.05 mm height gives it more presence above the wrist than a slim everyday watch. Wrist shape and strap choice affect the fit, so dimensions alone cannot predict comfort.

Owner impressions describe the dial, orange accents, applied details and display back as part of the watch’s appeal. One reviewer liked the bezel action, while noting that the hands looked slim and the lume plots small. These are personal visual observations, not standardized assessments of legibility or lume performance.
Choosing a strap, bracelet or pre-owned example
Check the strap attachment, not just the width
The manual lists a 22 mm strap width, a useful starting point if you want to change straps. Width does not guarantee that every aftermarket option will fit cleanly: confirm the attachment method and the shape of the strap ends against the case. Owners differ on appearance and comfort; one preferred the look of leather but found the bracelet more comfortable.

Inspect the individual watch
For a pre-owned example, check the dial text alignment, crown operation, bezel action and overall condition in person or through clear, detailed photographs. An owner review reported a text-alignment concern on some early units; that is a report about certain examples, not evidence of a universal defect. Confirm that the timekeeping crown screws down and sits flush when closed.
Treat old prices as historical context
A 2020 preview by The Time Bum listed launch-era prices of £895 on a strap and £1,000 on a bracelet. A Christopher Ward Forum review dated 12 February 2021 reported £895 on a strap and £995 on a bracelet. These are historical figures, not current retail or resale prices. Current availability of the original model and matching straps is not established here.

Verdict: a distinctive design with practical checks to make
The original C65 Super Compressor stands out among retro divers because its internal bezel, twin crowns and visible compression assembly give it a clear mechanical and visual identity. Its 150-metre rating and standard automatic movement make the specification straightforward to understand, while the 13.05 mm height and individual fit deserve consideration. It is most compelling for someone who values the compressor design; before buying, verify the exact model, the particular watch’s condition and the strap or bracelet fit.
