Is Chronofixe a real French watch brand?
Chronofixe is a revived French watch brand. Its official history traces its origins to 1857 in La Rasse, in the Doubs region, and names François-Xavier Joubert as founder. The company says it made precision instruments and was approved to produce altimeter chronographs. Those are brand-supplied historical claims; the available evidence does not independently verify the archival record.
Chronofixe also connects its story to French military aviation and the Type 20/21 supply ecosystem, and links the brand with the Dodane family through Alphonse Dodane. The company says it expanded into diving watches in the 1960s, later went dormant amid industrial and quartz-era changes, and was revived in 2024 by an international watchmaking group owned by a French entrepreneur. Its current positioning combines tool-watch references with cultural collaborations.
The history is relevant context, but it should not be confused with proof that a current watch reproduces the construction or performance of a historic military instrument. Chronofixe’s official history says Type 20 watches were government property issued to French Air Force pilots as flight instruments; that statement describes the historical watches, not the status of today’s retail models.

What is the Chronofixe Type 20 like on paper?
The Type 20 is the lineup’s hand-wound chronograph and its clearest aviation reference. Its 37 mm case and 44 mm lug-to-lug measurement are useful fit dimensions to compare with a watch you already wear; the listed thickness is 13.5 mm. It uses a manual SL4617III movement, with a stated 45-hour reserve and 28,800 vibrations per hour, and has a sapphire crystal.
At the official listing’s observed $480–$525 USD range, the strap choice affects the price. That makes the Type 20 the more involved option to live with: the movement is manually wound, and its stated water resistance is 5 ATM, below the Diver and 1930 examples in this comparison. The published specifications alone cannot establish how it performs or feels in use.

What movement is in the Chronofixe Diver?
The Diver uses the TMI NH35 automatic movement, according to Chronofixe’s product listing. The page gives a 37 mm case, 12.8 mm thickness, 46 mm lug-to-lug, 20 mm lugs, sapphire crystal, and 20 ATM water resistance. Its observed list price was $380 USD.
That is the most straightforward choice among these examples for someone seeking an automatic, time-only watch with a higher stated water-resistance rating. The figure is a manufacturer specification, not independent confirmation of dive performance; do not treat the rating as a substitute for checking the maker’s current guidance for intended use.

Who should consider the 1930 Black Aventurine?
The 1930 Black Aventurine takes a different route: it is a limited-edition 42 mm quartz watch with a Ronda 763E movement, mineral glass, and a stated 10 ATM water resistance. Chronofixe listed it at $270 USD at access. Its larger 49 mm lug-to-lug measurement and aventurine dial distinguish it from the smaller mechanical models.
Choose it for its quartz configuration, larger dimensions, and dial character rather than for mechanical-watch appeal. The available specifications do not establish how the dial looks in person or how the watch wears.

Is Chronofixe a good watch brand?
Chronofixe offers a coherent set of options with concrete published specifications: a manual chronograph, an automatic Diver, and a quartz dress-leaning model. The Type 20 and Diver share a 37 mm case diameter and 20 mm lug width, while differing in movement, dimensions, and stated water resistance. The 1930 is larger and uses quartz. That is enough to compare their basic proposition, but not to reach a confident verdict on build quality or long-term reliability.
Independent evidence is limited. Fratello published a hands-on article about the Chronofixe × seconde/seconde/ Asterix 65th Anniversary Limited Edition, a separate collaboration reported as a sold-out 500-piece release. It does not review the current Type 20 or Diver. Trustpilot showed a 3.5 score from four reviews at the time accessed and noted that Chronofixe had not recently invited customers to review it; such a small, changing sample is not a dependable measure of brand-wide satisfaction.
So, Chronofixe may merit consideration if its designs and stated specifications match what you want, but the available evidence does not support claims of independently established performance or broad owner consensus. If those points matter most, seek model-specific reviews or hands-on inspection before buying.
Shipping, returns, and warranty to check before buying
Chronofixe’s policies are published on its official site and may change. Check the live terms for your destination before placing an order.
- Shipping: The official FAQ describes free worldwide shipping, dispatch from Switzerland, the United States, or Hong Kong, and an estimate of 7–15 business days after dispatch. It says duties and taxes are included for the USA, EU, UK, Switzerland, Australia, Japan, and Singapore; charges may apply at delivery elsewhere.
- Returns: The published policy allows a return request within 14 days of receipt. Prior contact is required, and the watch must be unworn and returned with original tags, packaging, and components. Customized or engraved items are excluded. The policy describes return shipping as complimentary after approval and says processing may take up to 30 days.
- Warranty: The official-site purchase warranty is described as a two-year international warranty for qualifying manufacturing defects affecting the movement, hands, and dial under normal use. It excludes parts and issues including the case, crystal, strap or bracelet, crown, battery, accidents, and unauthorized work. The policy says to obtain a repair ticket before sending a watch.
For a strap change, the Type 20 and Diver list 20 mm lug widths. Chronofixe’s Beige Suede Leather Strap is also listed at 20 mm with a quick-release system, at an observed price of $35 USD. Width alone does not guarantee compatibility with every attachment style, so check the connection before ordering a replacement.
