The Christopher Ward C8 UTC Worldtimer pairs a conventional 24-hour GMT/UTC hand with a manually set, crown-operated city ring. The hand tracks a second time zone; the ring helps you work out the time in other cities. It is a discontinued-era mechanical watch, not an electronic clock that updates cities or seasonal time changes automatically.
How the C8 UTC Worldtimer works
Christopher Ward describes two related but distinct ways to read another time zone: a 24-hour GMT hand and an internal bezel marked with international cities. The GMT hand indicates a second time zone on a 24-hour scale. The city ring is a mechanical reference: you turn it with its crown and read the aligned city against the watch’s time display to work out the local time there. It does not independently keep time or automatically adjust for daylight-saving changes.
The maker’s C8 UTC Worldtimer operating manual separates operation into “Manual winding,” “Date and UTC setting,” “Time setting,” and “Worldtimer setting.” Follow the manual for the setting procedure rather than assuming that setting the UTC hand also sets the city ring.

Design inspiration and aviation details
The C8 Flyer styling references the Smiths Mark II A clock used in Spitfires during World War II, according to Christopher Ward’s C8 UTC product video published 18 August 2016. The maker also describes engravings referencing historic aviation wind tunnels in Farnborough, associated with aerodynamic development of aircraft including the Spitfire and Concorde. The wind-tunnel engraving is on the solid case back, according to the 2016 specification review.

Case fit, strap size and ownership considerations
The 44 mm case diameter is only part of the fit picture. An owner review reports a 53.2 mm lug-tip-to-lug-tip measurement and describes the steel version as wearing very large; that is one wearer’s impression, not a universal fit rule. If possible, try the watch on and consider how its lug span and case height sit on your wrist. The owner account appears in the Christopher Ward Forum review.
The documented lug width is 22 mm, so that is a useful starting point when looking for a replacement strap. Check the specific strap’s width, attachment and hardware compatibility, as well as the condition of any strap supplied with a pre-owned watch.

The same owner found the watch useful for travel but reported that wrist movement could accidentally rotate the lower crown controlling the internal ring. This is an individual observation, not evidence of a general defect. The owner also said they avoided swimming with the watch. For a pre-owned mechanical example, assess the city ring’s readability and operation, the setting procedure, overall condition, service history and seller’s return or buyer-protection terms.

The forum owner review says the model had been withdrawn, but that historical statement does not establish whether a particular watch is available now.
