Which F900 reference is being discussed?
F900 refers to a family and caliber, not one universal case configuration. The reference used here is the CC9008-50E, whose U.S. Citizen listing specifies a 45 mm case, Super Titanium case and bracelet, anti-reflective sapphire crystal, and 10 bar water resistance. The listing was marked “DISCONTINUED” and “Sold Out” when checked on October 7, 2026. What GPS reception sets—and what it does not
GPS reception can update time and calendar information, and the F900 can receive location data. It does not remove every manual setting. Citizen’s manual says GPS signals do not carry daylight-saving-time information, so the wearer must change the daylight-saving setting manually when the seasonal change applies, and change it again when the period ends. Citizen has promoted reception “as little as three seconds” for a multifunctional light-powered GPS-synchronized watch. That is a manufacturer claim dated to May 2015, not a guarantee for every sync or location. Citizen GPS satellite timekeeping technology.
The F900 manual’s location-reception instructions give a much broader approximate range of 30 seconds to two minutes. It also cautions that successful reception does not guarantee a fixed displayed-time accuracy: reception conditions and internal processing matter. One Citizen-hosted customer review by Andrew, dated April 17, 2018, reports taking the watch outdoors for GPS setup and seeing it set itself in about 45 seconds. That is one person’s account, not a controlled test or a typical-time promise, and its conditions cannot be equated with Citizen’s promotional minimum.

Why reception can fail
The watch needs sufficient charge to receive satellite signals. Citizen’s manual says reception cannot be performed when the seconds hand indicates insufficient charge. The manual also emphasizes that reception depends on conditions; a successful attempt is not assured simply because the watch has GPS capability.
- Check the seconds hand and charge state before attempting reception; recharge the watch with light if it indicates insufficient charge.
- Follow the manual’s reception instructions for the function you are using. Location reception may take roughly 30 seconds to two minutes according to those instructions.
- Do not assume a failure indicates a defect: the manual explicitly makes reception conditions relevant to the outcome.
Charging and the light-level indicator
Eco-Drive uses light to power the watch. The CC9008-50E listing includes both a power-reserve indicator and a light-level indicator. The light-level indicator is a documented display function; the available product information does not specify a numeric illumination reading or a universal charging-time figure, so neither should be inferred from the indicator alone. Keep the watch sufficiently charged for satellite reception, as the manual requires.

How to think about the modes and functions
The F900 manual documents distinct operating modes for ordinary time, light-level and power checking, UTC, chronograph, alarm, and setup. A prospective owner should treat these as functions to learn from the manual rather than assume that every control is self-explanatory. The CC9008-50E’s listed complications make the watch broader than a simple radio- or satellite-synced timepiece, but their real-world usability depends on the wearer’s familiarity with the mode and setting sequence.

What Citizen’s historical claims mean
Citizen Europe says it unveiled the F900 in 2015 and describes it as the first model in the line capable of receiving location data as well as a time signal. Citizen also called it the world’s thinnest multifunctional GPS satellite-synchronized watch at introduction; the company qualifies that superlative as based on its research as of September 2018. As of October 7, 2026, the cited official U.S. CC9008-50E page says discontinued and sold out; that does not establish broad market availability or rule out pre-owned stock elsewhere.
