Eco-Drive converts light into energy and stores that energy in a power cell. For the wearer, that means the watch is designed to avoid routine battery replacement. It still needs exposure to light to maintain its charge; it is not powered indefinitely simply because it has Eco-Drive. The cited product information does not state the H874’s power reserve when fully charged and kept in darkness, so there is no supported duration to quote here.

Moonphase and calendar features
The moonphase display is the standout complication, while the perpetual calendar and day-date handle calendar information. The world-time function covers 24 time zones. These are useful if you enjoy tracking lunar phases or want multiple time and calendar functions on the dial; they also make this a more specialized watch than a time-and-date-only model.

Radio-controlled timekeeping
Radio control lets compatible versions receive a time signal to correct the displayed time. Citizen describes its radio-controlled technology as having a stated margin of error of one second every 100,000 years; that is a manufacturer description of the technology, not an independently verified result for every watch or wearer.

Citizen notes that radio noise, local terrain, buildings and weather can affect signal reception, and the collection page describes reception in connection with world multiband models. Do not assume automatic synchronization will work at home or while traveling: check whether the relevant signal is available in your location and whether the watch can receive it under your conditions.

Is a 43 mm titanium watch a good first Citizen?
The case width is 43 mm, with a 22 mm lug width. Those numbers make wrist fit a key consideration, particularly if you usually wear smaller watches. Super Titanium case and bracelet keep the listed weight to 105 g on Citizen Canada’s page, but weight alone cannot establish comfort: wrist shape, bracelet adjustment and personal preference matter. If possible, try the watch on or compare its dimensions with a watch you already find comfortable.
As a first Citizen, the BY1010-57H makes most sense if you specifically want Eco-Drive and value the moonphase, world-time and radio-control functions. If you mainly want a straightforward watch, those complications may add complexity without much practical benefit. The 100 m rating is a useful specification, but it does not replace checking the manufacturer’s guidance for particular water activities.

- Exact reference and dial: BY1010-57H is gray; BY1010-57L is blue. Compare the model number, not just the collection name.
- Fit: Consider the 43 mm case width and 22 mm lug width alongside your wrist and preferred watch size.
- Radio reception: Confirm that the watch’s signal reception is practical where you live and travel; conditions affect results.
