Citizen’s Eco-Drive models run on light, while the Tsuyosa is an automatic; Tissot offers both quartz and automatic watches, including distinct quartz chronograph and Powermatic 80 versions of the PRX. Compare the exact reference, wrist fit, materials, water resistance, regional warranty and local price before deciding.
Citizen vs Tissot: what is the practical difference?
The most useful starting point is how you want the watch powered. Citizen’s Eco-Drive technology uses light, while the cited Citizen Tsuyosa is automatic. Tissot’s range also spans movement types: the PRX examples here include a quartz chronograph and an automatic Powermatic 80. Neither brand can be reduced to just one movement or ownership routine.

That makes this a model-to-model decision. A light-powered Citizen, an automatic Tsuyosa, a quartz Tissot PRX chronograph and an automatic Tissot PRX are different propositions, even when the watches share a broad everyday or sporty look.
How do the specific Citizen and Tissot examples compare?
These official specifications describe particular references, not every watch in either brand’s collection. The Citizen Tsuyosa details below come from Citizen’s Middle East regional page; the Tissot product pages are for the United States.
#1 Best Overall
- The "Tsuyosa" Automatic, from the NJ015 series, brings ultramodern sports styling right to your wrist. Executed in a versatile 40mm footprint, the sophisticated design of the watch makes a strong impression via a silver-tone stainless steel case and a seamlessly integrated, matching bracelet.
- Underneath an anti-reflective sapphire crystal, the sporty timepiece makes use of a sunray black dial, with a 3 o’clock date window and contrasting silver-tone details adding to its classic aesthetic. Powered by an automatic movement and offering up to 50 meters of water resistance, the refined timepiece is a daily wearing choice ready for work, play, and everything in between. Caliber 8210.
- 3 Hand with Date, Automatic, 42 Hour Power Reserve
- Sapphire Crystal
- 50M Water Resistant and 5 Year Limited Warranty
| Watch | Movement | Case and crystal | Water resistance | Reserve and warranty listed on cited regional page |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Citizen Tsuyosa NJ0151-53E | Automatic | 40 mm stainless steel; sapphire glass | 5 bar | 42-hour power reserve; three-year international warranty on the cited regional page |
| Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 Titanium 38 mm, T137.807.44.041.00 | Automatic | 38 mm titanium; sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating | 10 bar | Up to 80-hour power reserve; two-year warranty on the cited US page |
| Tissot PRX quartz chronograph 41 mm, T137.417.11.051.00 | Swiss quartz chronograph | 41 mm stainless steel; sapphire crystal | 10 bar | Power reserve not applicable to this quartz model; two-year warranty on the cited US page |
The differences are specific, not a brand-wide score. The PRX titanium automatic is smaller by listed diameter than the Tsuyosa and uses titanium rather than stainless steel; its stated reserve is longer. The PRX quartz chronograph is a separate 41 mm steel watch with a different movement and function, so it is not a direct automatic-versus-automatic comparison.
Which movement and ownership routine suits you?
Choose Citizen Eco-Drive if you want light-powered convenience
Citizen describes Eco-Drive as technology that “harnesses the light all around you, natural or artificial, to efficiently power your watch.” That is Citizen’s description of its technology, not an independent test. The brand says a fully powered Eco-Drive watch can run for up to six months in complete darkness. Eco-Drive reduces the routine need for conventional battery replacement, but it does not mean the watch never needs maintenance.

Choose the Tsuyosa or PRX Powermatic 80 if you want an automatic
Both cited models are automatic, so they are the relevant examples if you want a mechanical watch powered by wrist movement rather than light or a quartz battery. Their listed reserves differ: the Tsuyosa NJ0151-53E has 42 hours, while the PRX Powermatic 80 Titanium is specified for up to 80 hours. Consider how often you wear the watch and whether a longer stated reserve matters when it is off your wrist.

The cited PRX quartz is a chronograph, not the automatic Powermatic 80 in another movement variant. If you are comparing its functions or price with a Citizen, use a Citizen reference with comparable functions and verify both exact model numbers; the specifications here do not establish a like-for-like chronograph comparison.

How should you compare fit, materials and water resistance?
Start with diameter and wrist fit
The listed examples span 38 mm, 40 mm and 41 mm. Diameter alone does not determine how a watch wears: case thickness, lug-to-lug length, bracelet shape and your wrist all affect fit. Try on the exact reference when possible, or check its full dimensions before ordering. Do not assume the 38 mm PRX will suit every wrist simply because it is the smallest of these examples.
Weigh case and crystal materials
The cited Tsuyosa and quartz PRX use stainless steel; the 38 mm PRX Powermatic 80 uses titanium. All three examples list sapphire glass or crystal. The titanium reference also specifies an anti-reflective coating. These are reference-specific details, so confirm the materials for the precise model you are considering.

Match water resistance to your use
The Tsuyosa is listed at 5 bar, and both cited PRX references at 10 bar. A rating is not a guarantee that every water activity is suitable: follow the manufacturer’s guidance for the exact model, and have seals and water resistance maintained as directed. Do not infer suitability for a particular activity from the number alone.

Warranty length is not a global brand comparison. Citizen’s US warranty page describes five-year limited coverage for qualifying purchases from authorized retailers in specified territories, subject to exclusions and conditions. The cited Tsuyosa product page from Citizen’s Middle East site lists a three-year international warranty for that reference. Tissot’s US warranty page states 24 months. These terms come from different regional pages and may not apply where you live.
Before buying, confirm the warranty for the exact reference, your country and the seller. Citizen’s US terms also advise having water resistance tested and watches resealed every two to three years, or when a battery replacement occurs for applicable battery-operated models. Tissot recommends official dealers or authorized service centers for maintenance. Check current local terms with the brand or an authorized service provider.
Which one should you choose?
- Choose a Citizen Eco-Drive model if light-powered operation is your priority and you want to avoid routine conventional battery changes.
- Choose the Citizen Tsuyosa NJ0151-53E if you want the cited 40 mm stainless-steel automatic with a 42-hour reserve, and its fit, 5-bar rating and regional warranty work for your needs.
- Choose the Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 Titanium 38 mm if you prefer the cited automatic’s titanium case, smaller listed diameter, sapphire with anti-reflective coating and up-to-80-hour reserve.
- Choose the Tissot PRX quartz chronograph 41 mm if you want the specific quartz chronograph proposition rather than an automatic. Compare it with a Citizen chronograph of similar function, not with the Tsuyosa as though their features were interchangeable.
For any of these choices, verify the current local price, availability, full dimensions, exact reference and warranty eligibility. Prices and product availability were not established by the cited specifications, and can vary by market.
