The COROS PACE 4 is one of the best value-focused running watches available in 2026—especially if you prioritize low weight, long battery life, dual-frequency GPS, structured training, and an AMOLED screen. It is not the best choice for everyone: Garmin offers a richer smartwatch and safety ecosystem, while Suunto Run can undercut it during sales.
Launched on November 10, 2025, the PACE 4 is better described as affordable midrange than genuinely cheap. Its launch price was about $249, and the current price should be checked on COROS’s official buying page before purchasing.

The short verdict
Buy the COROS PACE 4 if you want a lightweight, running-first watch with unusually strong battery claims and serious training tools without moving into the $400-plus category. Its 32-gram nylon-band configuration, 1.2-inch AMOLED display, dual-frequency GPS, structured workouts, running power, race prediction, and marathon plans make it a compelling option for beginner-to-intermediate runners and marathon trainees.
Skip it if you need full-color maps, Garmin Pay, downloadable Spotify or Apple Music, extensive third-party apps, or highly polished general-purpose smartwatch features. The PACE 4 offers breadcrumb navigation—not full maps—and its music support is limited to MP3 files and phone controls.

- Battery life: up to 2 weeks in smartwatch mode; up to 20 hours in GPS mode
- Plan your race day strategy with the PacePro feature (not compatible with on-device courses), which offers GPS-based pace guidance for a selected course or distance

- Track all the ways you move with built-in activity profiles for running, cycling, track run, virtual run, pool swim, Pilates, HIIT, breathwork and more
That makes it arguably the best running-focused value in its price class, rather than the universally best cheap fitness watch.

These are manufacturer specifications, not guaranteed everyday results. COROS says battery life varies with GPS settings, music, backlight, navigation, notifications, and other features. The box also does not include a USB-C charging cable or adapter, according to the current buying page.
Design and comfort
The PACE 4’s biggest physical advantage is its weight. At 32 grams with the nylon band, it is light enough to disappear during long runs and comfortable for overnight wear. The silicone configuration weighs 40 grams, so comparisons that simply call the watch “32 grams” should be read with the band specified.
Its 11.8-mm case is slim by running-watch standards, while the 1.2-inch display keeps the watch compact enough for many smaller wrists. The nylon band is the better choice for weight and breathability, although runners should consider how quickly it dries after rain or a sweaty workout.
The control layout combines a touchscreen, buttons, a digital dial, and a new action button. Physical controls remain important during intervals, in rain, or while wearing gloves. Runner’s World praised the bright display but criticized the digital dial and small notification text, so buyers who value effortless smartwatch navigation should try the controls before committing.
AMOLED is the major PACE 3 upgrade
The PACE 4 replaces the PACE 3’s lower-power display technology with a brighter, higher-resolution AMOLED panel. COROS says the new display has 164% higher resolution than the PACE 3. The result should be stronger contrast, more attractive colors, and easier reading indoors, at dawn, and in ordinary daylight.

AMOLED is not an unconditional improvement, however. Always-on operation and higher brightness can consume substantially more power than the PACE 3’s simpler display. If your priority is maximum endurance and you rarely look at your watch outside a workout, a discounted PACE 3 may still be the more rational purchase.

Battery life: excellent on paper, conditional in practice
COROS rates the PACE 4 for up to 41 hours in All-Systems High GPS mode and up to 19 days of daily use. Those are strong numbers for an AMOLED running watch, but they are maximum claims under specified conditions—not normal results for every configuration.
Always-on display, dual-frequency GPS, frequent notifications, navigation, music playback, and a bright backlight all reduce endurance. Battery capacity also declines over years of charging.
The practical takeaway is straightforward: the PACE 4 should be a stronger long-distance and low-maintenance option than many AMOLED competitors, but shoppers should not interpret “41 hours” as a promise of 41 hours with every high-power feature enabled.

GPS
The PACE 4 supports All-Systems and Dual-Frequency satellite modes. Dual-frequency positioning can help in difficult environments such as cities, tree cover, and winding paths, but the hardware alone does not prove that every route will be perfect. Tall buildings, dense foliage, switchbacks, and track curves can still create errors, while instant pace may fluctuate even when total distance is sensible.
Rank #3
- GPS Distance & Pace Tracking: Built-in GPS with fast signal lock tracks real-time pace, distance, route, and calorie burn. Best used in open outdoor areas for optimal GPS signal. Built-in altimeter and barometer for elevation and air pressure data. Digital compass for outdoor navigation. No phone needed, leave it at home and run light. Lap counter, interval timer, and stopwatch for track workouts and cross country training. Accuracy that rivals top-tier fitness trackers.
- Call, Text & SOS on Wrist: Fast Bluetooth pairing with iOS and Android. Receive calls, texts, and SMS reminders on your wrist. Built-in speaker and mic for hands-free calls. One-tap SOS emergency call for added safety. Voice assistant for quick commands. Displays weather and clock. Note: Bluetooth companion device, not a standalone phone.
- AMOLED Screen + 2 Bands: 2.06-inch square AMOLED display, razor-sharp and vivid even in direct sunlight. Large, easy-read numbers, no squinting or eye strain. Smooth touch response for quick swipes mid-workout. Shock-resistant metal body with military-grade toughness. 2 interchangeable bands: sporty silicone + soft fabric, fits wrists 5.5-8.5 inches. Unisex design available in navy, blue, silver, dark, white, and rose gold.
- 50m Waterproof Swim & 170+ Modes: 5ATM / 50m waterproof, handles pool laps, open water, rain, and heavy sweat. Swim mode tracks laps and stroke count, chlorine-resistant, zero fogging. 170+ sport modes: walking, hiking, biking, running, and more. Metal body built tough for outdoor work and fishing trips. Note: not for hot showers, diving, or high-velocity water sports.
- Calorie Step & Health Monitoring: 24/7 step counting tracks daily steps, distance, active calories, and daily activity. Heart rate sensor with abnormal heart rate alerts for added safety. Blood oxygen, stress, mood, and sleep monitoring for better health insights. Women's health tracking for period and cycle management. Suitable for men and women ages 16+, beginner to advanced.
Runner’s World found the PACE 4’s GPS tracking accurate in its review, including comparisons with more expensive running watches. That is encouraging independent evidence, but GPS quality should still be judged by route type and settings rather than by the presence of a dual-frequency label.
Heart rate
COROS says the redesigned optical sensor uses larger LEDs and a more secure fit. That may improve wrist-based readings, but optical heart-rate sensors can lag during intervals, struggle in cold conditions, lose contact with a loose band, or lock onto running cadence.
For easy steady runs and general training trends, wrist readings may be sufficient. For precise interval, hill-repeat, or threshold work, pair the watch with a Bluetooth chest strap. Treat “accurate heart rate” as activity-specific, not as a guarantee that the optical sensor matches a chest strap in every workout.

Training features are the PACE 4’s real value
This is a running watch first, and its best features are designed to help you train rather than to replace a phone.
- Structured workouts: Build interval sessions with pace or heart-rate targets and prescribed recovery periods.
- Running power: Useful for runners who prefer an effort-oriented metric, particularly on hills or when pace is distorted by terrain.
- Race prediction and virtual pacer: Helpful for setting expectations and holding a target, but neither is a guaranteed race result.
- Marathon plans: The watch supports personalized marathon training plans for runners who want more structure.
- Training metrics: VO2 max, lactate threshold, Running Fitness Level, training load, recovery time, sleep stages, HRV, and menstrual-cycle tracking provide context over time.
- External platforms: COROS supports synchronization with services including TrainingPeaks and Final Surge.
Metrics such as VO2 max, lactate threshold, fatigue, recovery, and race prediction are algorithmic estimates based on watch data and training history. They are useful for trends and planning, not medical measurements. Illness, poor sensor contact, unusual terrain, and inconsistent training can make them misleading.
Navigation is breadcrumb-only
The PACE 4 can receive routes through COROS and synchronize routes from services such as Strava, RideWithGPS, and Wikiloc. It provides breadcrumb guidance and off-course alerts.

- Easy-to-use running smartwatch with built-in GPS for pace/distance and wrist-based heart rate; brilliant AMOLED touchscreen display with traditional button controls; lightweight design in 43 mm size
- Up to 11 days of battery life in smartwatch mode and up to 19 hours in GPS mode
- Reach your goals with personalized daily suggested workouts that adapt based on performance and recovery; use Garmin Coach and race adaptive training plans to get workout suggestions for specific events
- 25+ built-in activity profiles include running, cycling, HIIT, strength and more
- As soon as you wake up, get your morning report with an overview of your sleep, recovery and training outlook alongside weather and HRV status (data presented is intended to be a close estimation of metrics tracked)
It does not provide full onboard maps. You can follow a prepared line on a familiar or preplanned route, but you will not see detailed streets, trail context, or map information comparable to a higher-tier mapping watch. Route syncing should be completed and checked before a race or unfamiliar trail; in remote areas, the watch should not replace a phone, paper map, or other navigation backup.
If full maps are essential, consider stepping up to a COROS PACE Pro or another watch with confirmed map support.
Music and smartwatch features
The PACE 4 supports MP3 storage and controls music or podcasts playing on a connected phone. It does not currently offer direct Spotify or Apple Music integration, so “music support” does not mean you can download streaming playlists to the watch.
That distinction matters. Phone-carrying runners may find the controls sufficient. Runners who want phone-free streaming should choose a Garmin model with music support instead.
The built-in microphone enables Voice Pins and post-run voice notes. This is an unusual feature at this price, but its value depends on transcription quality, editing, sync speed, and language support. It is better understood as a training-note tool than as a general-purpose voice assistant.

Garmin Forerunner 165
The standard Forerunner 165 launched at $249.99. Garmin lists up to 11 days of smartwatch battery life and up to 19 hours in GPS-only mode, along with 5 ATM water resistance, Garmin Pay, and a broader safety and wellness ecosystem. The standard model does not provide onboard maps or music storage.
Best Value
- STYLISH DESIGN, VIBRANT DISPLAY: The lightweight aluminum build blends effortless style with workout durability, while the vivid 1.97" AMOLED display keeps your data easy to read, even under bright sunlight.
- ALL-IN-ONE ACTIVITY TRACKING: The Amazfit Bip 6 fitness tracker watch offers 140+ workout modes including HYROX Race and Strength Training, plus personalized AI coaching and 50m water resistance.
- UP TO 14 DAYS BATTERY LIFE: The Amazfit Bip 6 smart watch powers through your training and recovery for up to two weeks at a time - no nightly charging needed.

Choose the Garmin if payments, incident detection, Garmin Coach, Connect IQ apps, polished notifications, and Garmin Connect matter more than maximum GPS endurance. Choose the PACE 4 if you want a lighter running-first experience and substantially stronger advertised battery life.
See Garmin’s official Forerunner comparison.
Garmin Forerunner 165 Music
The Forerunner 165 Music launched at $299.99. Its defining advantage is downloadable music-service support, making it the better option for runners who train without a phone. It is less compelling for buyers who do not need offline streaming and instead want the longest possible battery life for the money.
Suunto Run
Suunto Run is a serious price competitor. Suunto lists a regular U.S. price of $249, while the All Black textile-strap page showed a temporary $179 price when accessed. Promotions can change by color, strap, and date.
It weighs 36 grams, offers dual-band GPS, an AMOLED display, MP3 storage, up to 12 days of daily battery life, and up to 20 hours of high-accuracy training. At a large discount, it may be the better bargain. At similar prices, the PACE 4’s longer advertised endurance and COROS running platform make it the stronger value for many dedicated runners.
Check Suunto’s live product page for current pricing.
COROS PACE 3
The PACE 3 remains worth considering if clearance pricing is substantially lower. Its less power-hungry display may suit runners who value endurance above AMOLED contrast. PACE 4 is the better fit for buyers who specifically want the brighter display, updated optical sensor, voice features, and newer control design.
COROS PACE Pro and higher-tier watches
Pay more when full maps, richer navigation, a larger display, or advanced outdoor features matter. If a PACE Pro or another higher-tier watch is only slightly more expensive during a sale, the extra capability may justify the difference. Otherwise, paying for features you will not use undermines the PACE 4’s value proposition.
Who should buy the COROS PACE 4?
- First GPS-watch buyers: Yes, if you want serious running tools rather than a general smartwatch.
- Marathon trainees: Yes, particularly if structured workouts, race prediction, and long GPS endurance matter.
- Battery-focused runners: Yes, provided you understand that real battery life depends on display and GPS settings.
- Small-wrist runners: Likely yes; the 32-gram nylon configuration is particularly attractive.
- Phone-carrying runners: Yes; phone controls and notifications may be enough.
- Trail explorers: Only if breadcrumb guidance is sufficient. Choose a mapping watch for complex unfamiliar routes.
- Garmin ecosystem users: Usually no unless you are deliberately trading Garmin’s ecosystem for longer battery and a simpler running focus.
- Phone-free music runners: No, unless you are comfortable transferring MP3 files rather than using Spotify or Apple Music.
Final verdict
The COROS PACE 4 is not the cheapest GPS watch in every sale cycle, and it is not the strongest smartwatch. But as a lightweight, affordable running watch with AMOLED, dual-frequency GPS, long advertised battery life, structured training, and no required subscription for its core platform, it is an excellent value.
Buy it at a competitive price if running performance and battery life come first. Choose Garmin for music services, payments, safety features, and a richer smartwatch ecosystem; choose Suunto Run when its discount is substantially larger; and choose a higher-tier COROS model when full maps are non-negotiable.
