The 2024 Credor Locomotive GCCR999 is a 300-piece limited reissue of a watch designed by Gérald Genta. Its hexagonal bezel, six functional screws and angular titanium bracelet make it unmistakable—and likely to divide opinion—without establishing that collectors as a group dislike it. The watch pairs a compact 38.8 mm case with an automatic movement, replacing the original Locomotive’s quartz engine. Seiko announced a European recommended retail price of €14,000 in May 2024; that historical figure is not a current offer or verified market price.
What is the Credor Locomotive?
The Locomotive is a Credor sports watch with a hexagonal bezel, six hexagonal screws and a bracelet that meets the case in an integrated-style design. Credor says Gérald Genta designed it. Hodinkee reports that the original entered production in 1979. Credor itself began in 1974, and Seiko presents the Locomotive as an important design in the brand’s history. Seiko’s May 30, 2024 announcement introduced the GCCR999 for Credor’s 50th anniversary, with worldwide availability planned from August 2024; the schedule does not establish present-day stock.
Is the Credor Locomotive designed by Gérald Genta?
Yes. Seiko credits Genta with the original design and says his sketch informed the 2024 reissue. The manufacturer specifically points to the preserved hexagonal bezel and six screws, as well as reconstructed details such as the indexes at 12 o’clock. That is Seiko’s account of the design relationship, not a claim that every detail of the reissue exactly reproduces the sketch or original watch.
Seiko’s release quotes Evelyne Genta, Gérald Genta’s widow and business partner: “He was honored to work for Seiko, and the Credor Locomotive became one of his most important creations.” Hodinkee’s history of the Locomotive likewise places it among Genta-associated integrated-bracelet sports watches and dates the original’s entry into production to 1979.

Why might the Locomotive design divide opinion?
“Divisive” is best understood as a description of the design’s bold choices, not a measured consensus about what collectors think. The watch puts its geometry front and center: a six-sided bezel, prominent screws, sharply angled case and bracelet, and a compact, patterned dial. Those features can read as distinctive and coherent—or as visually busy—depending on a wearer’s taste.
The bracelet has an integrated-style appearance, though Hodinkee notes that it is less integrated into the case than some better-known Genta-associated designs. The black dial’s pattern is inspired, according to Seiko, by a steam locomotive; the company says approximately 1,600 radial lines were digitally rendered and machined into the surface. Hodinkee’s Mark Kauzlarich praised the dial and called the watch “a history lesson in metal form.” Those are the publication’s editorial reactions, not a universal verdict.

The reissue therefore updates materials and mechanics while keeping recognizable design elements. Seiko describes the titanium alloy as “an alloy 30% lighter and more scratch resistant than stainless steel”; this is a manufacturer claim, not an independent comparative test reported here.
What movement is in the Credor Locomotive?
The GCCR999 uses Credor caliber CR01, an automatic movement with three hands and a date display. Seiko’s launch specifications list 28,800 vibrations per hour, 26 jewels and a stated power reserve of 45 hours. Hodinkee disclosed that its photographed sample was a dummy unit without a movement, so its writer could not report on the caliber’s feel or performance.

How much does the Credor Locomotive cost?
Seiko listed a European recommended retail price of €14,000 in its May 30, 2024 announcement. The release said price and specifications were subject to change. It does not establish today’s retail price, resale value, or availability, and the 300-piece announcement does not show whether any watches remain for sale.
