For a five-week summer drive to Spain, watch writer Daan de Groot packed three watches for different parts of the trip: an Omega × Swatch MoonSwatch Mission to Saturn, a Seiko SPB317J1 diver and a 38mm Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe. Why did Daan take three watches?
De Groot’s selection was about variety rather than finding one watch for every situation. He brought a light, playful option, a diver for active days with his family and a more expensive diver that could also work at dinner. He sometimes rotated between the Seiko and Blancpain. The choices reflect his own comfort, use and theft-risk judgments, not a controlled comparison or general security advice.

Omega × Swatch MoonSwatch Mission to Saturn
Before leaving, De Groot wore the Mission to Saturn on an Esprit NATO fabric strap during warm Amsterdam weather. He liked its light feel and Speedmaster-like shape. But he did not consider it the best choice for pools, beaches or other watery destinations, so it filled the more casual, playful role rather than serving as his water-oriented option.
Seiko SPB317J1
De Groot had recently acquired the Seiko and said it gave him confidence for pool days and an active family holiday. He reported a 70-hour power reserve, which suited his habit of sometimes leaving a watch unworn for a few days. That figure is his report in the 2022 article, not an independently verified manufacturer specification here.

38mm Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe
De Groot brought the Blancpain on a Bonklip bracelet. He valued what he perceived as a light wearing feel and its suitability both for water-oriented activities and for dressing up at dinner. He also said its ceramic bezel felt reassuring for family activities. What straps did he pack?
For variety, De Groot packed Wolbrook tropic straps and several NATO straps. He noted that the Seiko and Blancpain share a lug width but did not state the measurement. That is not enough to confirm fit: check the exact reference’s lug width before buying or swapping straps.
