What changed when the 44mm 1970 returned?
Dan Henry brought back the 1970 Automatic Diver 44mm in 2023 after an earlier sellout. The return added colour choices and the option of a date or no-date dial. Time+Tide’s June 6, 2023 report described the reissue as a 1,970-piece limited edition and noted a black-and-cream dial with a blacked-out case among the colourways. The report does not establish which configurations remain available now.
The current Dan Henry 1970 Automatic Diver listing shows Orange, Blue, Black and White, with 40mm and 44mm size choices and date/no-date selections. Check the selected variant: the page includes specifications for multiple configurations, and the 44mm dimensions should not be attributed to the 40mm model.
Is the price still the same?
No: the “same, affordable price” wording refers to the 2023 launch coverage, not the price currently displayed by the manufacturer. Time+Tide reported US$310 on June 6, 2023. The brand’s product page calls the listing limited edition, but it does not establish how many pieces remain in stock. The 1,970-piece figure is the quantity reported for the 2023 reissue by Time+Tide.

The current manufacturer listing describes a Seiko Japan cal. NH35 with 24 jewels and a 41-hour power reserve, and lists 20ATM / 200m water resistance. These figures describe the listed model; consult the selected variant’s specifications rather than assuming every size or dial configuration is identical. Water-resistance ratings are not a substitute for checking the watch’s condition and following appropriate use guidance.
How should you choose between the variants?
40mm or 44mm
The main distinction is case size. The 44mm version’s reported 50.5mm lug-to-lug span and 14.8mm thickness are useful fit considerations alongside its diameter; a larger diameter alone does not tell the whole story about how a watch will sit on a wrist. Time+Tide’s 2023 reissue report does not provide comparable 40mm dimensions, so compare the selected listing’s specifications before choosing.

The manufacturer currently presents Orange, Blue, Black and White choices. The 2023 report’s mention of particular colourways describes that launch coverage, not guaranteed current stock.

Will a 24mm strap fit?
The 44mm reissue is reported with a 24mm lug width, and Time+Tide notes compatibility with aftermarket straps at that width. Dan Henry also lists a 1970 rubber strap with 24mm among its selectable widths. Confirm both the watch’s lug width and the strap’s attachment compatibility before buying; the strap listing currently displays $45 USD, which may change.
