What is the Daniel Roth Extra Plat Rose Gold?
Introduced in 2025, the Extra Plat Rose Gold is the time-only member of Daniel Roth’s revived collection, rather than a tourbillon watch. Its reference is DBBD01A1. The model pairs the brand’s distinctive double-ellipse case with a two-hand display and a movement visible through a sapphire caseback. A slim double-ellipse case
The case is 38.6 mm long, 35.5 mm wide and 7.7 mm thick, made from 5N rose gold. Because the case is elliptical rather than round, the brand gives length and width rather than a conventional round-case diameter. Water resistance is rated to 30 m; that specification is not a recommendation for swimming or other water activities.
White-gold guilloché dial
The dial is solid white gold, decorated with handcrafted guillochage en ligne—fine pinstripes—and a filet sauté border. Black Roman numerals and black-coated steel hands provide the contrast. The result is more nuanced than a simple two-hand layout: the dial’s texture and border carry much of the visual detail while leaving the display restrained.

Caliber DR002: a movement made for the case
Inside is caliber DR002, a manually wound manufacture movement developed and assembled at La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton under Michel Navas and Enrico Barbasini. Daniel Roth says it was developed from the ground up for the Extra Plat. Its shaped 31 × 28 mm footprint follows the double-ellipse case, and its 3.1 mm thickness helps make the watch’s slim profile possible. Through the sapphire back, the movement’s architecture is part of the presentation rather than hidden behind a solid caseback.

The official description also notes a newly engineered barrel click. The 1916 Company’s launch coverage characterizes DR002 as a shaped base movement intended to accommodate future complications; that is useful context, not a promise that a particular complication will follow.

How it relates to Daniel Roth’s earlier Extra Plat watches
The name has historical roots. The 1916 Company traces the renewed design to Daniel Roth’s automatic ultra-thin model of 1990 and a hand-wound version from 1991. Those vintage watches used F. Piguet calibers 71 and 21, respectively; DBBD01A1 instead uses the purpose-developed DR002. They are precedents, not identical watches, and their winding systems and movements should not be treated as interchangeable.
Strap, water resistance and practical fit
The official specification lists a 20 mm lug width and a calfskin strap. That width can guide a search for replacement straps, but it does not establish that every 20 mm strap will fit correctly: taper, buckle dimensions and attachment details still matter. The 30 m water-resistance rating is a technical specification, not evidence that the watch is suitable for swimming.

Price and availability
In its May 9, 2025 launch article, authorized retailer The 1916 Company reported a price of CHF 49,000 before taxes and described the watch as non-limited. That is dated launch reporting, not a verified current price or stock listing; the retailer invited readers to inquire about availability. Regional pricing and present inventory may differ.
