David Beckham was reported wearing a black-coated Rolex Sea-Dweller courtside at a Los Angeles Lakers playoff game on May 1, 2012. Later coverage suggests it may be a Sea-Dweller Deepsea, but neither that more specific identification nor the workshop behind its dark finish is confirmed. The custom Tudor Pelagos linked to Beckham and Inter Miami is a separate sighting, not a second watch established at the basketball game.
What Rolex did David Beckham wear courtside?
Time+Tide identified Beckham’s watch as a custom blacked-out Rolex Sea-Dweller when he attended Game Two of the Western Conference quarterfinals between the Los Angeles Lakers and Denver Nuggets at Staples Center on May 1, 2012. The publication’s report appeared on October 23, 2020. Time+Tide’s account of the courtside sighting is the source for the event and the broad Sea-Dweller identification.
A later Time+Tide collection story describes the watch more specifically as a Sea-Dweller Deepsea and suggests it may be a reference 116660. That is a qualified identification from secondary watch coverage, not a confirmed reference established by Rolex or by a clearly legible reference photograph. The safest description is therefore Beckham’s black-coated Rolex Sea-Dweller; “Deepsea” is a plausible refinement, not a certainty. Time+Tide’s later Beckham watch coverage
Was the black finish a factory Rolex option?
The reports describe an aftermarket dark coating, using DLC (diamond-like carbon) or PVD (physical vapor deposition) as possible finishes. The treatment gives the watch its subdued, nontraditional appearance; it should not be described as a factory Rolex black Sea-Dweller colorway. The available accounts do not provide workshop records or service documentation for Beckham’s individual watch, so the exact coating process is not independently established.

The later article raises Bamford Watch Department as a possible modifier but does not confirm it. No particular workshop—including Bamford or Pro Hunter—can be named as the verified maker of this watch’s finish.
Where does the custom Tudor Pelagos fit in?
Time+Tide separately reports Beckham with a custom Tudor Pelagos associated with Inter Miami. Its account does not place that Tudor at the 2012 Lakers–Nuggets game. The two watches belong in the broader story of Beckham’s watch appearances, but the evidence does not support presenting them as a pair worn courtside. Time+Tide’s report

The exact custom Pelagos variant has not been established. Time+Tide’s article gives general Pelagos context, including a 42mm size, titanium construction, ceramic bezel and 500m water resistance; those details should not be treated as verified specifications of Beckham’s customized example.

Tudor’s own account documents Beckham and freediver Morgan Bourc’his wearing Pelagos watches during Beckham’s first open-water freedive. For the featured Pelagos, Tudor lists a titanium case and bracelet, ceramic bezel, patented auto-adjusting clasp, 500m water resistance, a 625m factory test, 70-hour power reserve, COSC certification, helium escape valve and luminous display. These are brand-published specifications for the featured model, not proof that Beckham’s separate Inter Miami-associated custom watch has the same reference or configuration. In its 2019 brand material, Tudor described Beckham as a longtime watch enthusiast and showed him wearing Black Bay S&G and Black Bay Chrono models. That establishes the brand relationship, but does not identify either watch in the 2012 courtside photograph or the Inter Miami Pelagos report. Tudor’s Beckham announcement
