Yes. Samsung says the standard Galaxy Watch5 charges about 30% faster than the Galaxy Watch4 in a short top-up comparison, and can reach up to 45% in about 30 minutes. But that result depends on using the Watch5’s dedicated charging puck with a compatible USB-C Power Delivery adapter. An older puck, phone battery sharing, or an incompatible USB power source may charge the watch more slowly.
What “faster” means for the Galaxy Watch5
Samsung’s figures describe short top-ups, not a guaranteed time to reach 100%. Its support page says the standard Watch5 can reach up to 45% in about 30 minutes; the Watch5 Pro has a separate claim of up to 35% in about 30 minutes. The figures are manufacturer claims, and actual results vary with conditions. Samsung’s charging guidance also says the setup and environment affect charging.
Samsung’s launch comparison with the Watch4 uses a different measure: it says eight minutes of charging can provide about eight hours of sleep tracking, describing this as approximately 30% faster than the Watch4. That sleep-tracking comparison is not the same as saying every Watch5 charge is 30% faster, or that a full charge takes 30% less time. Samsung also said the Watch5 battery is 13% larger than the previous generation, so a percentage gain does not translate into one universal number of minutes across models. The setup needed for the faster result
Use the Watch5-compatible magnetic charging cable or dedicated puck, model EP-OR900, with a USB-C adapter that supports USB Power Delivery (PD) and at least 5V/2A. Samsung’s materials identify compatible adapter examples including EP-TA800, EP-TA845, EP-TA45E, EP-TA210 and EP-T1510. These are examples, not a requirement to buy a particular adapter. The adapter can have a higher maximum rating; that does not make the watch charge at that wattage. The stated 5V/2A is an input requirement for the setup, not a promise that the watch continuously draws 10W. EP-OR900 documentation and Samsung test and accessory materials identify the puck and adapter requirements.
- Connect the Watch5 charging cable or EP-OR900 puck to a USB-C PD adapter rated for at least 5V/2A.
- Place the watch’s back centrally on the magnetic charging surface and confirm that the watch indicates charging.
- For a meaningful speed check, leave the screen and demanding functions idle, note the starting percentage, and check again after 30 minutes.
Samsung’s regional pages describe included charging accessories differently, so check the box contents for your market and retail package rather than assuming every Watch5 included the same wall adapter. Samsung UK’s charging guidance

Will an older charger or phone charge it?
Older Galaxy Watch puck
An older puck may charge the Watch5, but that does not mean it enables the faster mode. Samsung lists previous-model pads including EP-OR500 and EP-OR825 among setups that do not support faster charging. Check the model number printed on the puck or its packaging; similar appearance is not proof of equivalent performance.
Phone Wireless PowerShare
Samsung phones with Wireless PowerShare can charge the watch, making it a useful fallback when a puck is unavailable. Samsung lists battery sharing as a scenario where faster charging will not work, so treat it as an emergency option rather than the fast-charge setup.

Universal pads, power banks and USB ports
A universal wireless pad may charge a phone but fail to support the Watch5’s charging mode. A power bank or computer, monitor, or hub USB port may also lack the required PD behavior. Samsung warns that non-PD power sources and some universal charging pads do not deliver the faster result. A third-party adapter is not automatically unsuitable: check for USB-C PD and the required output instead of relying only on a “fast charger” label.
Why your Watch5 may charge slowly
- One component is incompatible: The newer puck paired with a non-PD adapter, or an older puck paired with a new adapter, may still result in ordinary charging.
- The watch is misaligned: Re-center it on the magnetic surface; a watch that is off-center may not charge reliably.
- Heat or cold is affecting charging: Let a hot watch cool before retrying. Environmental conditions can change the result.
- The battery is already near full: Charging naturally tapers as the battery approaches full, so a near-full top-up is not comparable to a low-battery test.
- A case or debris is interfering: Remove thick or metallic cases, then clean and dry the watch back and puck surface.
- Use or software is affecting the estimate: Active functions, recent GPS use, LTE activity, battery condition, and software behavior can affect observed speed or the estimated time remaining. These are practical possibilities, not a diagnosis of any one slow charge.
Samsung’s later support guidance continues to identify EP-OR900 as the dedicated charger for Watch5 and Watch6 and recommends a dedicated Samsung charger. Samsung service guidance

How to check whether the fast setup is working
- Start with a recorded battery percentage that is not already near full.
- Use the Watch5-supplied cable or EP-OR900 puck and a known USB-C PD adapter rated for at least 5V/2A.
- Remove a case, center the watch, and leave it idle while charging.
- Record the percentage after 30 minutes. Compare another setup only under similar starting level, temperature, and usage conditions.
This is a practical comparison, not a guarantee of Samsung’s “up to” figure. Charging varies by settings, environment, battery size, and other conditions; do not infer a universal full-charge time from one 30-minute result.
Should you buy a replacement charger?
- Buy or replace the puck if your supplied unit is lost, damaged, or an older model and short top-ups matter. The EP-OR900 is Samsung’s dedicated Watch5 fast-charging puck; Samsung’s UK business listing identifies that model.
- Consider a PD adapter if you already have the correct puck but your current adapter lacks USB-C PD or the required output. Samsung’s EP-TA800 is one listed compatible example: Samsung’s US product listing.
- Do not buy a high-wattage adapter just for extra Watch5 speed. A 25W, 65W, or 100W rating does not mean the watch receives that power; protocol compatibility and the puck matter. If your existing adapter meets the requirement, the puck—not a bigger wattage number—is the relevant thing to check.
A multi-device pad or phone sharing may be more convenient for occasional charging, but Samsung does not list them as the way to achieve its faster-charging result. If the watch remains unusually slow after checking alignment, temperature, puck and adapter, try another compliant cable or adapter; persistent slow charging may warrant checking the puck, battery condition, or watch hardware.
