Yes. Using INDIGLO draws power, so turning it on more often or leaving it illuminated longer can make a Timex watch battery run down sooner. Timex does not publish a general figure for how much ordinary INDIGLO use shortens battery life, so there is no reliable percentage or number of days to apply to every model.
Why INDIGLO uses battery power
INDIGLO illuminates the watch face. Timex describes it as an electroluminescent night-light in its W-240 manual; activating that light requires electrical energy. More activations and longer illumination mean more power used for the light.

The effect on total battery life depends on the watch and how it is used. Timex notes in its W-263 Trail Mate manual: “Battery life estimates are based on certain assumptions regarding usage; actual battery life may vary depending on actual usage.” The manual describes a short activation, but that behavior should not be assumed for every Timex model.

Timex’s reviewed materials do not give a general drain rate for routine INDIGLO use. They do not establish how many extra days or months the light takes off a conventional battery, or what percentage of battery life it uses. The practical answer is directional: frequent or prolonged illumination can shorten battery life, but the size of the difference is not established for your watch without model-specific data.

Battery-life figures for individual watches should not be treated as a measure of INDIGLO’s impact. For example, the iQ+ Move guide gives an estimate for that particular activity-tracking watch, but does not isolate how much battery power its light uses. Likewise, Timex’s advice to reduce unintended light activations applies to its rechargeable, connected Run x50+; it is not a battery-life measurement for conventional coin-cell watches.
How to make the battery last longer
- Use the light when you need it rather than activating it repeatedly out of habit.
- Let the light turn off according to your model’s behavior; activation time and controls can vary by watch.
- If the light comes on unintentionally, check the manual for your model’s button operation and guidance.
What to do when the light dims or the battery needs replacing
A dim INDIGLO light can be one sign of a low battery, but the relevant indicators and replacement instructions depend on the model. Timex’s W-248 manual, for instance, says its display or INDIGLO night-light may dim when the battery is running low. That manual specifies a CR2032 for the W-248 and recommends replacement by a retailer or jeweler; neither the cell type nor that instruction should be generalized to other watches.

Find the exact model in Timex’s manual directory or check the case back, then follow that watch’s battery and replacement guidance. Timex manuals list different battery types across model families, so do not choose a replacement cell based on another Timex watch.
