The Doplr Pulse-Watch is a mechanical wristwatch with two timing scales: one estimates pulse from 15 heartbeats, and the other estimates breathing rate from five breaths. It turns the seconds hand into a simple counting aid, not a clinically validated medical instrument. Doplr says the first collection is sold out; launch-era reports list a 2018 price of €1,450, not a current offer.
How the pulse and breathing scales work
The watch uses its central seconds hand with two scales around the dial. Doplr’s directions and Monochrome Watches’ 2018 hands-on account describe the same counting method.
Reading the pulsometer
- Wait for the seconds hand to pass 12.
- Start counting heartbeats.
- At the 15th beat, read the pulse value indicated by the seconds hand on the pulsometer scale.
Reading the asthmometer
- Wait for the seconds hand to pass 6.
- Start counting breaths.
- At the fifth breath, read the respiratory-rate value indicated by the seconds hand on the asthmometer scale.
These are timing scales: the wearer counts a fixed number of events, and the hand points to a corresponding rate. That makes the watch a distinctive analogue instrument, but does not establish the accuracy of a clinical measurement.
What the hands-on reports establish—and what they do not
Monochrome Watches’ 2018 report describes a two-ended central sweep hand and a clean dial organized around the two scales. Hodinkee’s 2018 introduction explicitly cautions that the watch is not intended to replace more accurate electronic medical equipment. No clinical validation study or independent accuracy figure is established by the cited sources.

Comme un Camion’s reviewer reported trying both functions at different times and obtaining the same result on repeated checks. That is one reviewer’s observation, not a clinical study, comparison against a medical instrument, or proof of medical accuracy.
Construction and specifications: current claims versus launch-era reporting
Doplr’s current product page describes the Pulse-Watch as a Swiss mechanical watch and lists the following specifications. These are manufacturer statements, not independently verified test results.

The movement and reserve figures differ, so they should not be combined into a single definitive specification. For a particular watch, check its reference, caseback, or accompanying documentation.
Doplr also lists luminous hands and markers, ceramic dials, a two-year guarantee, and spare-parts availability. It offers interchangeable handmade Nappa leather, rubber, and hybrid Performance straps. The manufacturer describes the Performance strap as waterproof, breathable, and disinfectable with soap; that claim should not be extended to the leather options.

Availability, price and production figures
Doplr’s current page says the first Pulse-Watch collection is sold out. Monochrome Watches and Hodinkee reported a launch price of €1,450 in 2018. Current pricing, resale values, and availability through other sellers are not established by those sources.
The production total is also inconsistent across the sources. Doplr’s current page says the first collection comprised 350 pieces, while the same page also describes production of 200 timepieces per year. Monochrome Watches and Hodinkee describe a 300-piece launch edition. The sources do not explain whether the figures refer to different periods or reflect a conflict, so none should be treated as a settled total.

Design background and the launch-era donation claim
Doplr attributes the pulsometer’s inspiration to English physician John Floyer and London watchmaker Samuel Watson, dating the origin story to 1707; Hodinkee gives similar historical framing. This is the account presented by the brand and publication, not an independently established history of the eighteenth-century instrument.
Hodinkee and Monochrome reported in 2018 that €25 from each watch sale would go to Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders). That is a launch-era claim; a current donation arrangement is not established.
