The Doxa SUB 300 Searambler 50th Anniversary watch reviewed in October 2016 was a prototype, not a confirmed final-production example. Dr. Peter McClean Millar’s week-long hands-on account describes a compact, vintage-faithful diver with a 120-click bezel and an approximately 14 mm overall height, but its measurements and edition-specific details should not be treated as verified final specifications. Doxa’s current SUB 300 Searambler is a separate model.
What the 50th Anniversary review actually covers
Millar’s October 2016 article examined a prototype associated with the 50th anniversary of the original SUB 300. He wrote that the design aimed to be nearly indistinguishable from the vintage watch. The review expected the final watch to look much like the sample, while explicitly cautioning that caseback and bracelet lettering could change. The review does not independently confirm final-production specifications.
That distinction matters when assessing dimensions, finishing, or compatibility: the review documents one prototype, rather than a production-spec inspection or a service guide. Millar also says he did not remove the dial and hands, so his account cannot establish whether those components interchange with vintage parts.
How the prototype was described
Case and wrist presence
Millar reported that the prototype kept the vintage SUB 300’s approximate case length and width. Its domed sapphire crystal brought the overall height to about 14 mm. These are the reviewer’s observations of the prototype, not independently confirmed final dimensions.

Bezel and dial details
The prototype’s bezel had 120 clicks, compared with the vintage watch’s 60-click bezel, according to Millar. Its bezel used imperial dive-table numbers rather than the modern metric markings he described. He also noted luminous material on the sweep hand, a small lume marker beside the date, and DOXA lettering on the crown. Because the sample was a prototype and its final appearance was not confirmed, these are best read as observations of that watch.
Parts compatibility
Millar reported that several components were generally not interchangeable with the vintage watch: the bezel click arrangement, caseback thread diameter, crown thread diameter, dial-holding-ring width, and caseback seal differed. He did not assess dial-and-hand interchangeability. This is a limited report about the examined prototype, not a complete compatibility assessment; anyone considering repair or parts replacement should have the individual watch and parts checked by a qualified watchmaker.

What wearing it was like, according to the reviewer
Millar said he wore the prototype to work for about a week. He found it easy to read and comfortable, attributing that comfort to its relatively small size and weight. Those are personal impressions from brief wear, not a universal fit judgment or a laboratory test. Wrist proportions and preferences differ, and Millar acknowledged that some buyers prefer larger watches.
How it differs from the current SUB 300 Searambler
Doxa’s current U.S. SUB 300 Searambler product page is for SKU 821.10.021.10, not the anniversary prototype. The table separates the prototype review’s observations from specifications on that current listing; it does not imply that the anniversary watch shared the current model’s unverified specifications.

- HIGH-BEAT PT5000 AUTOMATIC MOVEMENT: Powered by a PT5000 mechanical movement operating at 28,800 vph (4Hz). It supports self-winding, manual winding and hacking seconds, with an approximate 38–40-hour power reserve for daily wear or watch rotation.
- THREE VINTAGE DIAL OPTIONS: Choose Aged Brown with an aged texture, Classic Black with gold-tone markers, or Retro Blue with a date window. Luminous hands and markers aid time reading, while the rotating aluminum bezel retains a classic diver layout.
- DOMED SAPPHIRE AND 316L STEEL: The domed sapphire crystal uses an inner AR coating to reduce distracting reflections while helping resist scratches. The polished and brushed 316L stainless steel case provides a durable, corrosion-resistant exterior.
- 200M WATER RESISTANCE: A screw-down crown and screw-down solid case back support a 200M/20ATM rating for swimming, snorkeling and regular activities around water. Keep the crown fully secured before water contact and rinse the watch after saltwater use.
- BALANCED 40MM CASE AND BRACELET: The case measures 40mm in diameter, 46.6mm lug to lug and 12.3mm thick. A 20mm stainless steel bracelet measuring approximately 18.5cm and an approximate watch weight of 129g create a balanced wrist profile.
