The current Nezumi Baleine is the BA4, with a Miyota 9039 automatic movement, a 40 mm case, and a stated 200 m water-resistance rating. The “hands-on” review in the title, however, covered an earlier Baleine: Rob Nudds’s 2021 review of the gold-coated BA2S.122, which used a Seiko NH35. That distinction matters: the older article contains personal wear impressions, while the available BA4 coverage establishes specifications and configurations, not a hands-on test of the updated watch.
Which Nezumi Baleine does the hands-on review cover?
Rob Nudds’s January 29, 2021 Fratello review concerns the BA2S.122, a gold DLC-coated version with a black dial. It was a personal purchase, and Nudds’s aesthetic and value judgments belong to that specific watch and its period—not the current BA4.
The older BA2S.122 was listed with a 40 mm case, 13 mm thickness including crystal, 47 mm lug-to-lug length, 20 mm lug width, AR-coated sapphire, a closed decorated case back, a Seiko NH35 movement, and 200 m water resistance. It came on a black tanned-leather strap, and the article reported a price of €404. Nudds wrote, “The movement is a necessary component, but it is not what makes the Nezumi brand tick.” His comment was part of his assessment of that earlier model.
The 2021 article said that 50 gold examples were made and that steel versions were unlimited at the time. Those are historical production details, not a statement about current BA4 availability.

What changed on the current Baleine BA4?
The current generation changes the movement and published thickness while retaining the same headline diameter and lug-to-lug dimensions. The earlier and current measurements come from different publications and may use different conventions, so the figures should be read as source-reported specifications rather than a controlled, direct comparison.

Nezumi lists the BA4’s crystal as double-domed sapphire with internal anti-reflective coating, its described dial configuration as matte black, and its markings as Super-LumiNova. These are manufacturer specifications, not independently measured findings about glare, legibility, or lume performance.

What movement is in the Nezumi Baleine?
The current BA4 uses a Japanese Miyota Cal. 9039 automatic movement without a date display. Nezumi specifies a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and up to 42 hours of power reserve. The older BA2S.122 reviewed in 2021 instead used a Seiko NH35. The two movement descriptions apply to different generations; the NH35 should not be attributed to the current BA4.
How is the current BA4 configured?
Nezumi’s BA4 press page gives the current model’s technical specifications and 20 mm lug width. Fratello’s updated-model coverage describes reference BA4.102 with either a textured black rubber strap measuring 20/18 mm or a five-row steel bracelet, and reports a screw-in case back.

Fratello reported €630 with the rubber strap and €695 with the bracelet, excluding taxes, in that article’s publication period. These are historical reported prices, not verified current prices or a guarantee of availability. The earlier €404 figure belongs only to the 2021 BA2S.122 review and is not a BA4 price.
What does the BA4’s 200 m rating establish?
Nezumi publishes a water-resistance specification of 20 ATM / 200 m / 660 ft. That is the manufacturer’s stated rating; the available coverage does not establish an independent pressure test or certify how a particular watch will perform in real-world diving. The brand positions the watch for adventure and everyday wear, but that positioning is not independent proof of suitability for a specific dive.

Is the current Baleine a hands-on-reviewed watch?
The 2021 Fratello article is a first-hand review of the BA2S.122. The newer Fratello article reports BA4 specifications and options and explicitly looks forward to a future hands-on review. It therefore supports a comparison of published details, but not claims that the current BA4 has been worn or tested for comfort, accuracy, durability, or performance underwater.
For strap changes, the current BA4’s stated 20 mm lug width identifies the nominal strap width to look for. Check the replacement strap’s end shape and buckle details against the particular watch before ordering; lug width alone does not establish compatibility with every strap.
