Favre Leuba’s Chief Skeleton is the brand’s first skeletonized watch, introduced in 2025. It pairs a 40 mm case with an openworked automatic movement, 100 m published water resistance and an integrated interchangeable rubber strap. Steel cases have gold-finished movement bridges; black DLC-coated cases use anthracite-finished bridges. This is a researched overview, not a first-person hands-on review: comfort, legibility, accuracy and water resistance have not been independently tested here.
What the Chief Skeleton is
Favre Leuba introduced the Chief Skeleton in 2025 as the first fully skeletonized timepiece in its 288-year history. It extends the Chief collection, which returned after the brand’s 2024 revival. The model was nominated in the GPHG 2026 Challenge category; a nomination is not a win. Favre Leuba’s launch and history materials provide the brand’s account of the watch and its place in the collection.
The openworked automatic movement was developed for Favre Leuba by AMT, identified by WatchTime as Sellita’s manufacture arm. WatchTime describes the barrel around 11:30 and the balance at 6 o’clock; Escapement discusses the openworked layout and finishing. These are published descriptions, not findings from an inspection of the movement for this article.

The listed dimensions make this a 40 mm watch with a published thickness of 11.76 mm, but they do not establish how it wears on a particular wrist. The strap’s quick-change system is described for the supplied configuration; the available material does not establish compatibility with generic third-party straps or a reference-specific strap width.

Steel and gold-finished versus black DLC and anthracite
WatchTime reports seven launch iterations: three with gold-plated movements and four with anthracite movements. Steel-and-gold versions are described with black, blue or green accents. Black DLC-and-anthracite versions include those accents and an ice-blue option. This is the launch assortment, not a guarantee that every color remains on sale. Check Favre Leuba’s current reference-level listings for the colorway and movement combination actually available.

The practical distinction is visual: the finish of the case and movement changes together, while accent colors vary. An openworked display makes the movement architecture part of the dial, but the cited coverage does not establish whether one version is easier to read than another. That depends on viewing conditions and personal preference.

Price and availability by market
Prices differ by market, configuration and date. Favre Leuba’s collection listing, accessed October 8, 2026, showed CHF 3,450 and CHF 3,550 for 40 mm automatic Chief Skeleton products; confirm the exact reference and applicable local taxes before treating either figure as the price of a particular colorway. WatchTime reported 2025 launch prices of $4,500 for steel and $4,600 for DLC. Escapement reported UK RRPs as of November 8, 2025, of £3,450 for the steel case with gold movement and £3,550 for the DLC case with black movement. Those older dollar and pound figures are dated market references, not confirmed current prices.
Current stock and seller authorization were not established by the cited coverage. Confirm availability with Favre Leuba or a retailer whose authorization you can verify, and check that the listed price matches the specific case, movement finish and dial accents you want.

What to weigh before choosing one
- Openworked-dial legibility: The exposed movement architecture is the defining visual feature, but published descriptions do not settle how quickly the hands stand out in different light. See the exact colorway in person or request clear photographs before buying if legibility is a priority.
