The choice between Typ 1 and Typ 2 is primarily visual: baton markers on Typ 1, Arabic numerals on Typ 2. Both use a Sellita-based movement, with assembly, regulation, and decorative work reported in Glashütte. Whether that counts as affordable depends on your budget and what you expect from a Glashütte-made watch; the available prices do not establish that DUG is the cheapest maker there.
How much does the DUG Purist cost?
DUG’s English site currently lists the Purist 37 from €1,199 and the 40 mm Typ 1 and Typ 2 from €1,299. The Typ 2 California Dial is listed from €1,349. These are starting prices, not prices for every dial, date, or strap combination; check the live listing for the exact configuration. DUG’s current English product overview also describes the watches as sold direct and backed by a three-year warranty.

Configuration can move the 40 mm price above its starting point. In Fratello’s October 7, 2026 review, the blue-dial Typ 1 with date and steel bracelet was €1,499 including VAT, while the gray-dial Typ 2 without date on leather was €1,349 including VAT. Fratello reports that, in this 40 mm lineup, a date and a steel bracelet each add €100; dial color can also affect price. Those reviewed prices should not be treated as universal prices for every size or edition. Fratello’s review and configuration details

The Typ 2 California Dial is a separately priced variation listed from €1,349 on the current site.
What movement does the Purist use?
The DUG 400 is based on Sellita’s SW400-1, according to Fratello; WatchTime likewise identifies a Sellita SW400 base. WatchTime reports that DUG’s Glashütte atelier mounts, starts, and regulates the movement. Fratello reports hand-applied Glashütte perlage, rhodium-plated bridges, blued screws, and a 24K-gold-plated rotor; WatchTime says the rotor is milled in Glashütte. This is a Swiss-based movement with documented local assembly, regulation, and finishing—not evidence of a movement designed entirely in-house. How does the 40 mm Purist wear, and what are its specifications?
Fratello reports these specifications for its reviewed 40 mm watches:

- COSC Certified Chronometer
- Case Size: 39.00 mm, Band Width: 20 mm, Case Thickness: 10.98 mm

The 47.5 mm lug-to-lug measurement is useful when assessing fit, particularly if a watch’s diameter alone does not tell you how it will sit across your wrist. These are Fratello’s figures for the reviewed 40 mm models, not confirmed universal specifications for the 37 mm variants. Fratello’s full reviewed specifications

It is reasonable to call the Purist a lower-priced entry into the Glashütte-made mechanical-watch category relative to its own positioning, but “affordable” is a personal judgment, not a price category established by these sources. The evidence gives DUG’s prices and reports its direct-sales strategy; it does not provide a systematic comparison proving the brand is the cheapest Glashütte watchmaker.

- The see-through caseback is a window to the heartbeat of precision watchmaking: equipped with the Powermatic 80 featuring a Nivachron balance spring, the T-Race Automatic redefines what's possible on the road.
WatchTime attributes DUG’s lower-price strategy to selling without intermediaries and reducing marketing expenses. That is a reported company strategy, not independently audited cost data. The practical case for the Purist is therefore specific: a comparatively accessible listed price, combined with a Sellita-based movement and reported Glashütte assembly, regulation, and finishing. Whether that balance is worth the price depends on your priorities—not on the word “affordable” alone.

Best Value
- Case Size: 40.00 mm, Band Width: 20 mm, Case Thickness: 10.23 mm

Which configuration should you choose?
- Choose by dial first: Typ 1 gives you baton markers; Typ 2 uses Arabic numerals. Pick the layout you will find easiest and most appealing to read.
- Compare 37 mm and 40 mm on fit: DUG lists both sizes, but the detailed dimensions above apply to Fratello’s reviewed 40 mm watches. Check the 37 mm model’s own specifications before deciding.
- Price the options you actually want: Date, dial, and bracelet choices affect the total. Compare a like-for-like configuration rather than relying only on the starting price.
- Consider strap flexibility: DUG says its watches accept standard third-party straps with a 20 mm lug width, and its own straps have quick-release hardware. Confirm compatibility for a specific strap before ordering. DUG’s strap FAQ
