Choose the DW-5600 for a straightforward resin square, the GW-M5610 for solar charging and radio time calibration in a similar resin format, or the GMW-B5000 for a full-metal build with solar, radio control and Bluetooth time adjustment. All three families share Casio-listed shock resistance and 200-metre water resistance; the key differences are construction, power and time-setting features.
How the three square G-Shocks differ
The DW-5600, GW-M5610 and GMW-B5000 are related in shape, but they serve different priorities. The DW-5600 is the basic battery-powered option. The GW-M5610 adds Tough Solar and Multi Band 6 radio reception while retaining a resin case and band. The GMW-B5000 changes the experience most visibly, using stainless steel and adding Bluetooth communication alongside solar and radio time correction.

| Model cited | Construction and listed mass | Power and time adjustment | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| DW-5600E-1V / DW-5600 family | Resin case and band; Casio South Africa’s family chart lists 48.9 × 42.8 × 13.4 mm and 53 g. | Non-solar; the family chart lists a conventional battery with a two-year life. No Bluetooth. | A simple resin square when solar charging and automatic time correction are not priorities. |
| GW-M5610-1 / GW-M5610 family | Resin case and band; Casio Europe lists 46.7 × 43.2 × 12.7 mm and 51.7 g for this product page. | Tough Solar and Multi Band 6 radio-controlled timekeeping; no Bluetooth is listed for this model. | A resin square for buyers who want solar power and radio calibration. |
| GMW-B5000D-1 / GMW-B5000 family | Stainless-steel full-metal family; Casio South Africa’s family chart lists 49.3 × 43.2 × 13 mm and 167 g. | Tough Solar, Multi Band 6 radio time correction and Bluetooth communication/time adjustment. | A metal square for buyers who prioritize full-metal construction and added connectivity over low weight. |
These figures come from different Casio sources: a South African family comparison for the DW-5600 and GMW-B5000, and Casio Europe’s exact GW-M5610-1 product page. They are manufacturer-listed specifications, not independent measurements or wearing tests. Suffixes and regional variants matter, so check the exact reference sold in your market rather than assuming every colorway or later revision has identical specifications.

What you gain with each model
DW-5600: the straightforward resin square
The DW-5600 keeps the feature set focused: resin construction and conventional battery power, without solar charging, radio calibration or Bluetooth in the cited family chart. Its listed mass is 53 g. It makes sense if you want the basic square configuration and do not need those added systems.

GW-M5610: solar and radio in resin
The GW-M5610 keeps a resin case and band while adding Tough Solar and Multi Band 6. Casio Europe lists 29 time zones for the GW-M5610-1 and estimates about 10 months of rechargeable operation after a full charge under normal use without further light exposure. With power saving on and the watch stored in total darkness, its stated estimate is 26 months. These are Casio operating estimates under the stated conditions, not guarantees for every use pattern.
Multi Band 6 receives time-calibration signals from transmitters Casio lists in Japan, the United States, Germany, England and China for the GW-M5610-1. Reception depends on location and conditions; radio correction is not a promise of coverage everywhere. The cited model page does not list Bluetooth.

GMW-B5000: full metal and Bluetooth
The GMW-B5000 family brings the square design into stainless steel and adds Bluetooth communication to Tough Solar and Multi Band 6 radio time correction. The Casio South Africa family chart lists 167 g, substantially more than either resin option. That makes it the clear choice if you want the metal construction and connectivity, but a less natural pick if minimizing weight is important.

Casio’s regional family comparison lists shock resistance and 200-metre water resistance for all three families. This shared rating is a useful baseline, but it does not make the watches interchangeable in materials, charging or time-setting methods. The cited specifications do not establish comparative comfort, reception in a particular location or long-term durability.
Rank #3
- Shock resistant structure protects against impact
- 200 meters water resistance for swimming and snorkeling
- Solar-powered battery charges itself from any light source
- Atomic timekeeping syncs to radio towers for precise accuracy
- LED backlight illuminates the digital display in low light
Which one should you choose?
- Choose the DW-5600 if you want the basic resin square and are content with conventional battery power.
- Choose the GW-M5610 if solar charging and Multi Band 6 are the upgrades you want while keeping the resin format.
- Choose the GMW-B5000 if full-metal construction and Bluetooth time adjustment matter more to you than keeping the watch light.
