Choose a square G-Shock by comparing the exact model’s case dimensions, weight and features—not by assuming every square wears or works the same. Casio’s specifications show the resin DW-5600 and GW-M5610-1 are light, while the full-metal GMW-B5000 is substantially heavier; the smaller GM-S5600 is a distinct option if you want a shorter, narrower case. Those measurements can help you narrow your choices, but they do not establish a wrist-size cutoff.
Which square G-Shock should you buy?
Start with how you want the watch to wear, then choose the functions you will use. The DW-5600 is a straightforward resin square; the GW-M5610-1 adds solar charging and radio time correction; the GMW-B5000 offers a stainless-steel full-metal construction at a much higher weight. If a smaller footprint is your priority, Casio’s comparison lists the GM-S5600 as a middle-size option.

How to compare size and fit
Look at all three case dimensions
Width is only one part of the footprint. Case length, width and thickness together give a better basis for comparing watches, and even identical-looking squares can vary on each dimension. The GM-S5600 is the smallest of the listed examples in all three measurements, while the metal GMW-B5000 is marginally larger than the DW-5600 in length and width.
Consider weight as well as dimensions
The resin DW-5600 and GW-M5610-1 weigh 53 g and 51.7 g respectively in Casio’s cited specifications. The full-metal GMW-B5000 is listed at 167 g. That difference is likely to matter more to many wearers than the modest difference in their case footprints. Casio describes the 5000 family as retaining stainless-steel cases, while 5600-family cases use resin that may be reinforced with carbon fiber or glass fiber; see its 5600/5000 Series features guide.

Do not treat dimensions as a wrist-size formula
Casio’s specifications do not define wrist-circumference thresholds, and case measurements alone cannot settle how a watch will look or feel on a particular wrist. Wrist shape, strap articulation and personal preference also affect fit. If fit is decisive, use measurements to shortlist options, then assess the exact watch on your wrist where possible.

Power and time correction
The GW-M5610-1 specification includes Tough Solar and Multiband 6 radio timekeeping. Do not assume those functions come with every 5600 or 5000 model: they belong to particular references. Other models may use a battery or include different time-setting features, so check the exact product listing.

- Shock resistant structure protects against impact
- 200 meters water resistance for swimming and snorkeling
- Solar-powered battery charges itself from any light source
- Atomic timekeeping syncs to radio towers for precise accuracy
- LED backlight illuminates the digital display in low light
Everyday functions
The GW-M5610-1’s official feature list includes world time, a stopwatch, a timer, alarms and an EL backlight. Compare the actual model’s display and functions against what you expect to use; family names alone do not guarantee identical feature sets.
Materials and water-resistance rating
The cited examples carry a Casio manufacturer rating of 200 m / 20 bar. This is a stated rating, not a blanket assurance for every water activity; follow the instructions for the exact model. Materials also distinguish families: the 5000 line uses stainless-steel cases, while 5600 models use resin, sometimes with fiber reinforcement.

A practical way to make your choice
- Pick a footprint range. Compare the official length, width and thickness for the exact references you are considering. Include the GM-S5600 if you want to investigate the smaller-size option.
- Decide how much weight you are comfortable wearing. The listed resin examples are around 52–53 g; the full-metal GMW-B5000 is listed at 167 g.
- Choose functions by reference. If solar charging and radio time correction are priorities, verify that the specific model—such as GW-M5610-1—lists them.
- Check the official page for your market. Confirm dimensions, material, features, water-resistance rating and exact model suffix; regional configurations and availability may vary.
- Judge fit on wrist if possible. Treat published dimensions as a shortlist aid, not a guarantee based on wrist circumference.
Casio’s 2026 S/S G-SHOCK catalog is another official reference for the current collection. For a basic resin-square example, see the DW-5600UBB-1 product page; model suffixes matter, so check its specifications rather than treating it as interchangeable with every DW-5600.
