Fratello Watches reviewer Dave Sergeant says the Echo/Neutra Averau 39 Moonphase surpassed his expectations and became a frequent everyday choice. His verdict rests on a compact, wearable case, a moonphase display that looks at home on a modern dial, and appealing strap options—not on the complication being essential for daily timekeeping. Another owner liked the dial and canvas strap but found the watch somewhat top-heavy and the moonphase fiddly to set, so fit and setting convenience may matter more to you than the headline enthusiasm.
What made the Averau 39 Moonphase stand out to Sergeant?
In his January 5, 2022 review, Dave Sergeant wrote: “Let me say that the Echo/Neutra Averau 39 Moonphase did not meet my expectations; it far exceeded them.” He described the watch becoming a “grab-and-go” choice after it arrived. That is one reviewer’s personal experience, not a prediction of how every owner will feel.
His central appeal was the way the moonphase gave the watch a distinctive look without making it feel old-fashioned. Sergeant wanted a more modern presentation of the complication, and felt the subdial suited the rest of the dial. He also appreciated the proportions and the available strap choices.
How does the case wear?
Echo/Neutra’s current black and blue product pages list a 39 mm diameter, 46 mm lug-to-lug length and 12.5 mm thickness. Sergeant and a separate Fifth Wrist owner both reported 13.5 mm thickness for the versions they reviewed. The sources do not say whether the 1 mm difference reflects a model change or different measurement methods, so it is worth checking the specific watch you are considering rather than assuming the older reviews match the current listing.

Sergeant found the size comfortable, though he wished the lugs curved down more. The Fifth Wrist owner described the case as somewhat top-heavy, but manageable on a small-to-medium wrist. These contrasting impressions underline why diameter alone is not a fit guarantee: wrist shape, lug curvature and how the watch’s weight feels on your wrist all play a part.
Is the moonphase useful, or mostly decorative?
For Sergeant, the moonphase’s chief everyday value was visual: it made the dial more interesting and gave the watch its modern, distinctive character. It is not necessary for ordinary timekeeping. If you want an appealing complication but do not need another function to consult throughout the day, that can be a sensible trade-off.

Setting it correctly is less straightforward than setting the time. The Fifth Wrist owner said they needed a moonphase calendar or an online lookup to set the display accurately. If you expect to adjust it often, that extra step may be a drawback; if you mainly value the display, it may not matter much.
What do the current specifications and price say?
Echo/Neutra’s product listings, accessed October 8, 2026, describe the black and blue Averau 39 Moonphase as Swiss made and list a Sellita SW280-1 automatic élaboré movement. The blue page specifies 26 jewels and a 41-hour power reserve. Both current listings give the case dimensions as 39 mm by 46 mm lug-to-lug by 12.5 mm thick, with 100 m water resistance, a screw-down crown, domed sapphire crystal and a moonphase subdial showing the northern and southern hemispheres. The black listing also specifies double internal anti-reflection coating; the pages describe BGW9 Super-LumiNova on the main indexes and hands.

The current black and blue pages each display a price of €890. That is the listed price when those pages were accessed, not a guaranteed checkout total: country, taxes, shipping and later price changes can affect what you pay. The black product page states a two-year international limited warranty against manufacturing defects from receipt, subject to the booklet supplied with the watch. Check the live page for current stock, checkout, shipping and return terms.
Who is it likely to suit?
- Consider it if: you want a 39 mm automatic with a visually prominent but relatively modern moonphase, appreciate the dial design, and find the case proportions comfortable on your wrist.
- Try it on first if: you are sensitive to thickness or top-heavy watches, or your wrist fit depends on how far the lugs curve down.
- Look elsewhere if: you want a complication that is especially practical for everyday use or you prefer a display that is simple to set without consulting a calendar.
A Fifth Wrist owner reports a 20 mm lug width and discusses canvas, leather and bracelet options. Treat that width as a reviewer-reported measurement, not a guarantee that every current variant accepts any 20 mm strap; verify the exact version and fit before buying accessories.
