In practice it means a watch from a brand positioned as luxury, bought new at the lower end of that brand’s range. This guide explains how to compare Gallet, Hamilton, Omega and IWC on the attributes that matter, and it gives one fully verified current example: the Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical 38mm, listed at $675 in Hamilton’s US catalog. Verified current model names and prices for Omega, IWC and Gallet are not yet established here, so those three brands are covered by comparison criteria rather than ranked models.
What “entry luxury” means for this guide
No standard boundary exists for the phrase. Brands do not label models as entry luxury, and no official price band uses the term. The working definition used here has three parts: the brand is a established luxury-positioned name, the watch is sold new through an authorised channel, and its official price sits near the bottom of that brand’s own line. Your personal budget is the final filter, so treat any price ceiling in this article as a starting point rather than a rule.
Be careful with statistical price bands. Swiss export statistics use bands such as CHF 500 to 3,000, but those describe wholesale export values, not what a shopper should expect to pay. They are covered in more detail below.
The verified example: Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical 38mm
The Khaki Field Mechanical 38mm is the one current model in this guide with a confirmed official price. Hamilton’s US catalog lists it at $675, and the collection page identifies a 38 mm case and 5 bar (50 m) water resistance. Before treating it as a purchase reference, confirm the following on the exact reference page:

#1 Best Overall
- Price: $675 is the US-market list price observed in Hamilton’s catalog. It is not a retailer price, a stock promise or a guarantee of availability. Convert to your local currency only after checking the official price in your own market, including taxes and duties.
- Movement: the collection is mechanical. The exact calibre is not stated in the verified catalog text, so read it from the reference page.
- Strap or bracelet: confirm the strap type and lug width on the reference page before buying a replacement strap.
- Warranty and service: the warranty terms and service route depend on the market where you buy. Check them with Hamilton or the authorised seller.
Do not treat $675 as a family price. Hamilton’s field collection also includes Khaki Field Quartz and Auto variants with their own prices. Quote each price only with its exact reference.
How Gallet, Hamilton, Omega and IWC compare

The criteria to compare on when you shortlist
Once you have exact references from each brand, compare them on the same attributes rather than on brand reputation:

- Movement: Japanese Imported quartz analog movement, provide precise time and long term running.
- Waterproof: Water resistant to 30M. Daily use waterproof, washing hands, raining or splash. But not suitable for swimming, diving, shower.
- Material: Anti-scratch mineral glass and environmental protection vacuum plating case never fade. Genuine leather strap, delicate and soft.
- Multifunction Design: Simple and luxurious dial, covers the week, date, time display, chronograph, LED light functions.
- Perfect Gift: This elegant looking luxury wristwatch can be worn for a variety of occasions, whether formal, business or casual, or from indoor, outdoor events or everyday use.
- Use and style: field, dress, pilot, dive or everyday wear. Judge the function first, then the look. A field watch and a dress watch serve different wrists and occasions.
- Fit: case diameter, thickness and lug-to-lug length. A 38 mm case may sit well on a small wrist and look undersized on a large one. Check thickness and lug length if you have a flat or narrow wrist.
- Movement: mechanical hand-wound, automatic or quartz. Each has different maintenance and accuracy trade-offs. No type is universally better for an entry-level buyer.
- Materials and water resistance: case and crystal materials, bracelet or strap options and the water resistance rating from the exact reference. A rating such as 5 bar is suitable for splashes and rain, not for swimming dives.
- Price: the official local price, with currency, market and date recorded. Keep new authorised retail separate from pre-owned or marketplace listings.
- Ownership: warranty, servicing access and seller authenticity. Confirm these with the brand or the seller before you buy.
Buying channel and authenticity
Buy new watches from the brand’s own site or from a named authorised retailer, and ask the seller to confirm the reference and warranty in writing. Treat marketplace listings as a separate category: a low price there does not show that the item is a new authorised product, and its warranty status may differ. If the seller cannot confirm the reference, serial details or warranty terms, do not rely on the listing.

The Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry (FH) reported Swiss watch exports of CHF 25.6 billion in 2025, down 1.7% from 2024, in a release published 2026-01-29. It said the CHF 500 to 3,000 export-price segment was stable in 2025.
In its first-half 2026 release, published 2026-07-21, FH reported CHF 12.8 billion in exports, down 0.7% year over year. Export volumes rose 2.3%. Mechanical watches with an export price below CHF 500 rose 23.8% by volume, while the CHF 500 to 3,000 segment fell 5.7% by value.
These figures describe export shipments and export prices. FH states that exports are not sales to end consumers and that consolidated figures cannot show the business trend of any individual company. They are useful for understanding the wider market, but they say nothing about how Gallet, Hamilton, Omega or IWC performed, or about what a particular retail price will be.

How to narrow the list
- Set a budget in your own currency, including taxes and any strap or service costs you expect.
- Choose the use case first: everyday wear, dress, field or sport.
- Get the exact reference from each brand’s official site for your market, and note the local price and date.
- Compare case size, movement, water resistance and bracelet or strap options from those reference pages.
- Buy only from an authorised channel, and confirm the warranty and service route before paying.
For a first watch, a verified option such as the Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical 38mm gives a concrete starting point. Use the criteria above to test any other model against it.
