They are now sold as the Pebble 2 Duo and Pebble Time 2. As of August 18, 2026, the Pebble Time 2 is listed at $225 and in stock, while the $149 Pebble 2 Duo is sold out at the official store. The announcement is no longer breaking news, but the watches are real products—and their names, availability, and battery-life picture have changed since launch.
What Migicovsky announced in March 2025
The two watches were presented as simple, phone-connected alternatives to feature-heavy smartwatches. Both use e-paper displays, physical buttons, and open-source PebbleOS. Their intended strengths are glanceable screens, customization, and longer battery life—not replacing a phone or serving as advanced sports computers.
At launch, the less expensive Core 2 Duo was scheduled for July 2025 and the Core Time 2 for December 2025. Those were initial targets, not the shipping dates buyers ultimately experienced. The original announcement and its specifications were reported by TechCrunch and Engadget.
Core 2 Duo, now Pebble 2 Duo
This is the simpler, lower-priced model, with a monochrome display, polycarbonate body, physical buttons, barometer, compass, microphone and speaker. It supports step and sleep tracking. The official store describes a 1.2-inch black-and-white e-paper screen; launch-era coverage gave a 1.26-inch, 144 × 168-pixel specification. Treat the size as revision-dependent or inconsistently reported rather than assuming both descriptions refer to an identical panel. The company’s launch target was around 30 days of battery life.

Core Time 2, now Pebble Time 2
The larger, more premium model has a 1.5-inch, 64-color e-paper display, touchscreen, physical buttons, stainless-steel frame, microphone, speaker, heart-rate monitor, and step and sleep tracking. It uses a 22 mm quick-release strap. The company estimated roughly 30 days of battery life at launch; later company-reported figures are more cautious.
Why e-paper, buttons, and PebbleOS are the point
E-paper is intended to keep information visible at a glance without the conventional smartwatch-screen experience. The physical buttons make navigation and music control central to the design. These watches pair with a smartphone over Bluetooth: they show notifications, control phone music, and rely on the phone for internet-connected functions. They are companions, not standalone phones.

- FASTER AND MORE ACCURATE GPS TRACKING: 5 satellite positioning systems ensure fast GPS connection and accurate positioning whenever you're out running, walking, cycling or hiking.
The watches run PebbleOS, the open-source operating system whose original source code Google released. That release allowed Migicovsky and the community to build new hardware around the software; WIRED’s coverage also highlights the community and compatibility trade-offs. Pebble currently advertises access to more than 15,000 apps and watchfaces, a moving figure listed on its official site and marketplace.
That catalog is not a promise that every legacy app works on every model. Some apps depend on web services that no longer operate, and watchfaces may need updates for newer screen dimensions, touch input, or APIs. WIRED notes that some older faces can show borders on the larger Time 2 screen until developers adapt them.

What battery life looks like in practice
The roughly 30-day launch figure was an estimate or target, not a guarantee. In its July 2026 update, Core Devices reported median battery life above 30 days for Pebble 2 Duo and around 21 days for Pebble Time 2. These are company-reported figures, not independent laboratory results. Backlight use, animated watchfaces, and health tracking can reduce runtime. The company also acknowledged some Time 2 units with unusually high consumption and less than three days of battery life. Its account of production, battery reporting, and reported problems is in the July 2026 update.

Known limitations and reported problems
Pebble’s project has a more hobbyist character than a mature mainstream smartwatch platform. Migicovsky’s original framing acknowledged the possibility of rough edges, delayed or broken features, and durability or longevity risks. The company’s July 2026 update identified reports affecting some Time 2 watches:
- Inaccurate step or sleep metrics, and accelerometers that sometimes stopped working.
- Touchscreens that failed or registered touches inaccurately.
- Unusually high power consumption on some units.
- Cracked front glass and button assembly problems.
Core Devices said it was replacing hardware in reported cases and working on software fixes. That response is not a guarantee that every problem is resolved or that future buyers will never encounter one.

The official store says Pebble is not a fitness or sports watch. It is a poor match for buyers who need advanced GPS, serious training metrics, comprehensive health monitoring, or a phone-independent experience. iPhone users should also account for restrictions on third-party watches, including limits on notification replies. Pebble describes replies for iOS users in the EU as an area of ongoing work, not a universally available feature.
Which Pebble makes sense to buy?
Choose the Pebble Time 2 if it matches your priorities
At $225 and listed in stock on August 18, 2026, it is the immediately orderable option among the original two. It suits buyers who want color e-paper, touch, physical buttons, a metal frame, and a heart-rate sensor, and who accept active software development and the possibility of rough edges.
Wait for the Pebble 2 Duo if you want the simpler model
The $149 Duo is the cheaper, monochrome, button-focused choice, but the official store currently lists it as sold out. Check the listing rather than assuming a restock date.
Consider Pebble Round 2 for a different design
The Round 2 is a later, separate product, listed at $199 with new orders shipping in September as of August 18, 2026. It is aimed at buyers who prefer a round, thin stainless-steel watch; its estimated battery life is about two weeks, shorter than the original models’ launch target. Its timing and estimate come from the Round 2 announcement and the current store listing.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteChoose a different category for sport or broader smartwatch features
If GPS training, extensive health features, communication, or deep phone integration is the priority, compare watches built for those purposes instead. Apple, Garmin, Fitbit, and Samsung serve different needs; they are not direct feature-for-feature equivalents to Pebble. Pebble’s appeal is its combination of e-paper, battery endurance, buttons, customization, and open software—not parity with those platforms.
Quick Recap
Practical checks before ordering
- Confirm the model’s current stock and shipping estimate on the official store page.
- Check that the apps and watchfaces you rely on support the specific model and still have working services.
- Verify phone-platform support for any notification replies or other feature you consider essential.
- Budget for variable battery performance rather than treating the launch estimate as a guarantee.
- Do not buy one as a conventional sports watch or as a substitute for an independent phone.
