The key difference between the A07 references is what they do: the A07.111 has a date, the A07.161 adds a power-reserve display, and the A07.211 is a chronograph. ETA lists the three examples below at 36.60 mm in diameter and 7.90 mm high, but shared dimensions do not make them interchangeable.
What is an ETA Valgranges movement?
Valgranges refers to ETA’s large-format A07 movement family, rather than one single calibre with one fixed set of functions. The A07 references share a broad size profile, but complications, seconds display and jewel count vary by model. The name is useful shorthand for the family; for identifying a movement, ordering parts or assessing a replacement, the exact reference matters.
ETA’s product pages identify the A07.111, A07.161 and A07.211 as phased out. That is ETA’s status label; it does not by itself establish whether a particular movement, part or repair service is available today.
How do the A07.111, A07.161 and A07.211 differ?
| Reference | ETA-listed functions | Seconds display | Diameter × height | Jewels | ETA-listed typical power reserve |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| A07.111 | Hours, minutes and date | Central seconds | 36.60 × 7.90 mm | 24 | 54 hours |
| A07.161 | Hours, minutes, date and power-reserve display | Central seconds | 36.60 × 7.90 mm | 24 | 54 hours |
| A07.211 | Hours, minutes, date and chronograph counters for 60 seconds, 30 minutes and 12 hours | Small seconds | 36.60 × 7.90 mm | 25 | 54 hours |
These are manufacturer-listed specifications on ETA’s product pages: A07.161, A07.211 and A07.111. ETA lists 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) for each. The listed reserve is a specification, not an independent measurement of performance in a watch.

A07.111: date and central seconds
The A07.111 is the straightforward date-equipped automatic among these examples. ETA lists hours, minutes, central seconds, quick date correction and stop seconds. Its published dimensions are 36.60 mm across and 7.90 mm high, with 24 jewels.
A07.161: adds a power-reserve display
The A07.161 retains the A07.111’s listed diameter, height and jewel count, while adding a power-reserve display. It also has central seconds, date, quick date correction and stop seconds according to ETA.

A07.211: a cam-operated chronograph
The A07.211 has small seconds and a chronograph with counters for elapsed seconds, 30 minutes and 12 hours. ETA describes it as a cam chronograph operated by two pushers. It has 25 jewels; its listed diameter, height, frequency and typical reserve match the other two references in the table.
Why do sources give different power-reserve figures?
ETA’s undated product pages list a typical power reserve of 54 hours for the A07.111, A07.161 and A07.211. A reproduced ETA technical communication dated 23 August 2007 gives 46 hours for the A07.111, A07.161 and A07.171. The documents therefore disagree for the overlapping references; the available evidence does not establish why. If the figure matters for a particular watch, check its documentation rather than treating either number as a guaranteed runtime.

Which watches use the ETA A07.111?
A specialist secondary reference connects the A07.111 with the Longines L691 designation and names historical watch applications. That is useful context, not confirmation from ETA’s product page that a specific watch contains this calibre. Verify the movement reference against the watch’s own documentation or have a qualified watchmaker inspect it; a brand, model family or similar-looking case is not enough to establish the calibre.
The A07 family’s historical context and related references are discussed by Grail Watch Reference’s A07 family overview and its A07.111 reference. These are secondary sources, so treat application and alias information accordingly.

Does “large-format” mean the movement fits any big watch?
No. The 36.60 mm diameter and 7.90 mm height describe the movement, not a guarantee of fit in every large watch. Case construction, dial layout, movement holder, stem position and the watchmaker’s parts requirements can all matter. Nor do the shared dimensions of the A07.111, A07.161 and A07.211 establish that they can substitute for one another: their functions differ, and the A07.211 has a different jewel count.
For a repair or replacement, start with the exact calibre stamped or documented for the watch, then confirm compatibility through the watch’s documentation or a specialist. Do not choose a movement solely by family name or diameter.

What to check before sourcing a Valgranges movement
- Confirm the complete reference, such as A07.111 rather than simply “Valgranges” or “A07.”
- Match the reference to the watch’s documentation and required functions, including date, power-reserve display or chronograph.
- Ask a watchmaker or parts supplier to confirm fit and compatibility; matching case size or movement dimensions alone is not enough.
- For a second-hand or otherwise available unit, verify its condition, completeness and suitability with the seller. ETA’s phased-out label does not establish current stock or service support.
