Its 40 mm case, 47 mm lug-to-lug length and Seiko NH38A movement make it a straightforward mechanical watch on paper; the main buying decisions are whether its angular design suits you and whether you prefer the bracelet or strap configuration.
What is the Ember Rocket?
Made by British microbrand Ember Watch Company, the Rocket is the brand’s first model. Its defining feature is the combination of a multi-faceted steel case and a sandwich-style dial: cutouts in the upper dial expose a colored, luminous lower layer. Bold colorways and an angular bracelet option give it a more expressive look than a conventional time-only automatic. Time+Tide’s June 2025 review reported that founder John Glinister developed the concept from sketches and that the Kickstarter campaign raised almost $27,000 in 21 days.

Case, dial and bracelet
Angular case with contrasting finish
The Rocket’s case is made from 316L stainless steel, with a bead-blasted matte finish and a polished accent on the bezel, according to the official product page. The many facets make the watch visually distinctive without changing its basic proportions: it measures 40 mm across and 47 mm from lug to lug.
#1 Best Overall
- Round watch featuring corrugated unidirectional bezel, luminous hands/markers, and magnified date window at 3 o'clock
- 40 mm, Length: 210mm, 23k gold-plated stainless steel case with mineral dial window. Movement Caliber: NH35A
- Japanese automatic movement with analog display
- Gold & Stainless steel tone bracelet with foldover clasp with safety closure
- Water resistant to 200 m (660 ft): In general, suitable for professional marine activity and serious surface water sports, but not scuba diving.
Layered dial and color options
The dial’s upper layer has cutouts that reveal luminous material underneath, creating the Rocket’s signature layered appearance. Time+Tide listed Midnight Neon, Glacial White, Skyline Pink, Sky Blue and Sunset Orange in its 2025 review. That list describes the models reviewed then, not a guarantee that each color is currently in stock; check the brand’s current selection before choosing.
Bracelet or strap
The matching bracelet continues the case’s angular design. Ember describes its links as screwed and specifies quick-release spring bars and a folding clasp with micro-adjustment. The 20 mm lug width gives the Rocket a defined strap width, but check compatibility and fit before buying a replacement strap.

Bracelet weight is worth considering: Tom Austin of Time+Tide reported that his bracelet-configured watch felt heavy at 160 g. That is his observation about the reviewed configuration, not a weight specification for every version or a prediction of how it will feel on every wrist. T3’s March 2026 hands-on review also described the watch as comfortable despite the angular case, and singled out the bracelet and dial as highlights. T3’s assessment is another reviewer’s experience, not a fit guarantee.
How does the Ember Rocket wear?
The 40 mm diameter and 47 mm lug-to-lug length provide useful starting points for judging fit. Case shape, wrist shape and bracelet adjustment also affect how a watch sits, so dimensions alone cannot establish whether it will suit you. Austin of Time+Tide found the proportions comfortable for many wrist sizes; T3 likewise described a comfortable feel despite the case’s angular appearance. Those are reviewer impressions rather than universal fit claims.

- Stylish Classic Dial Design: This analog watch features a refined dial with full Arabic numerals, delivering a elegant fashion look. The leather strap is soft, durable, and comfortable for daily wear. A clean date window calendar display adds everyday practicality. This wrist watch suits men's wrist watches and women's wrist watches, ideal for business, casual wear, or classic gift occasions.
- Mechanical Hand-Wound Movement: Powered by a classic manual mechanical movement, this wrist watch operates without batteries. Mechanical watches have limited power reserve, so daily or pre-use winding is essential to reduce time deviation and prevent stopping. If not properly wound, the watch may stop easily. Regular winding ensures stable performance and accuracy.
- Care Instructions for Long-Lasting Use: Please remove all protective films before wearing. Handle the watch gently and avoid vigorous activities. Keep away from strong magnetic fields, electronics, and sudden impacts. Avoid sauna use and environments with drastic temperature changes, as moisture may enter the case, leading to movement rust or damage over time.
- Daily Waterproof: This analog watch is daily waterproof, suitable for light splashes, rain, or accidental water drops. Not suitable for showering, swimming, or diving. Prolonged water exposure or use in extreme hot or cold environments may shorten the lifespan of the mechanical movement and affect accuracy.
- Ideal Gift for Any Occasion & Anyone: With its elegant retro style, this wrist watch suits any occasion and outfit. A thoughtful choice for gifts for men, gifts for women, birthday gifts, Christmas gifts, wedding gifts, or retirement gifts. Perfect as a gift for dad, mom, husband, boyfriend, sister, or yourself.
- Compare the 47 mm lug-to-lug measurement with a watch you already find comfortable.
- Decide whether you want the angular bracelet or a strap, and account for the bracelet’s reported heft.
- Choose a dial color based on current availability rather than assuming every reviewed colorway remains offered.
What does 100 metres of water resistance mean here?
The Rocket is specified at 100 metres water resistance by Time+Tide and the official product page. That figure is a product specification, not a reason to treat the watch as a dive watch: the available sources do not establish a dive-watch classification. Match the rating to your intended use and consult Ember’s current care guidance if you need specific advice about water exposure.
Price and availability
Prices vary by source and date, so earlier figures should not be read as current quotes. Time+Tide listed the Rocket at £359 on a rubber strap and £449 on bracelet in June 2025. T3’s March 2026 review gave a price of £449 / €527.95 / US$609 / AU$884; these are figures reported in that review and may not include current shipping or taxes. T3’s review and Time+Tide’s review provide those dated price references.

That depends on how much you value the design and small-brand proposition relative to the dated prices available. The sources establish a sapphire crystal, a 316L steel case, a Seiko NH38A with a 41-hour reserve, and distinctive case and dial construction. They do not establish that it is the best-value watch in its price range, nor do they provide comparative testing against alternatives.

In his June 2025 review, Time+Tide Retail Editor Tom Austin wrote: “At under £500, the Rocket is an exciting prospect, and packed with value in places where I didn’t expect to find it.” That is Austin’s opinion at the time, not a current price claim or an objective verdict.
