The G2 is camera-free and built around navigation, translation, captions and prompts; Meta’s display glasses add a camera, speakers and a full-color display. Choose based on which kind of wearable you want, not on the word “display.”
What the Even Realities G2 is—and is not
The G2 is a pair of everyday-style glasses with a heads-up display (HUD): text and simple information appear in a fixed area of your view. It is not an immersive augmented-reality headset or a self-contained computer. The glasses pair with a phone, and many functions depend on that connection.
Even’s published specifications describe a binocular green micro-LED display projected through waveguides, with 640 × 350 resolution, a 27.5-degree field of view, 60 Hz refresh rate and 1,200-nit brightness. The listed passthrough is 98%, and the frame is rated IP65 for water and dust resistance. These are specifications, not a guarantee of legibility in every lighting condition or prescription setup. Even’s G2 specifications
That focused design is the point: G2 aims to put brief, useful information in view without adding a camera or speakers. Its lack of a camera can make it a more comfortable choice in camera-sensitive settings, but it does not remove privacy concerns around microphones, phone data, notifications or any cloud-connected AI features.

What makes G2 a credible Meta rival?
Even’s advantage is wearability rather than feature parity. It lists the G2 at about 36 grams, compared with Ray-Ban’s 68 grams for Meta Ray-Ban Display in size L. Even also claims up to two days of regular use, while Ray-Ban lists up to six hours per charge and up to 24 hours with its case. Those battery figures are manufacturer claims and should not be read as a direct test under identical usage.
The G2 uses a magnesium-alloy frame and titanium-alloy temples, with a universal bridge fit and adjustable nosepads listed by Even. It is designed to accommodate prescription lenses and presents information to both eyes. For someone who wants discreet text prompts in familiar-looking glasses, those choices may matter more than camera or audio features.
What can you do with the G2?
Navigation and notifications
Even promotes turn-by-turn navigation and dashboard functions such as time, weather, calendar, messages, notifications, health information and QuickList items. Its product material says navigation works wherever Google Maps does, but availability and behavior can depend on region, phone permissions, app support and a stable connection. Confirm whether your phone must remain connected and whether background app settings affect directions before relying on the glasses for a route. Even’s HUD features

Check which apps can send alerts, how much message text appears, and whether you can respond from the glasses.

Translation is a natural fit for a display: the wearer can read text without needing audio from the frames. A November 2025 T3 first-impressions report cited support for 29 languages at that time; that is a launch-period claim, not confirmation of the current app’s language pairs or performance. Check current support for your languages, offline operation, delay, speaker separation and noisy-room accuracy before buying. T3’s launch-period first impressions
Teleprompter
The teleprompter is one of the more distinctive uses: scripts can be prepared on the phone and displayed in view, with microphone-based tracking intended to follow where you are in the text. That could help with presentations, speeches, teaching or video recording. Test how it handles pauses, skipped lines, ad-libbing and interruptions before depending on it for a live event. T3’s early hands-on report found the feature promising, but it covered only a few days of use.

Conversation coaching and AI features
Later coverage reported software additions including conversation coaching, live captions, suggestions and preparation notes, controlled with gestures or the R1 ring. These are software-dependent features, so their behavior can change with app and firmware updates. Verify account, subscription and regional requirements, then assess whether prompts arrive quickly and accurately enough to be useful rather than distracting. What the G2 cannot do
The G2 has microphones, but no built-in camera or speakers. It therefore does not offer the same hands-free photo and video capture, camera-based visual AI, audio playback or calls-through-the-frames proposition as Meta Ray-Ban Display. It is also not a stand-alone computing platform: losing the phone connection can make phone-dependent features unavailable. If camera, audio or media capture is central to why you want smart glasses, the G2 is the wrong fit.

Prescription lenses: check the details before ordering
Even says the G2 supports single-vision lenses for myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism, with a stated range of -12.00 to +12.00. Progressive lenses are not offered through the ordinary online order flow, though authorized retail partners may be able to provide them. Even says buyers can submit prescription details later, but manufacturing does not begin until it receives them; its product page describes digitally etched lenses matched to the prescription. Confirm your prescription type, pupillary distance requirements, lens options and local return terms before placing a custom order. Even’s G2 product and prescription information Even’s purchasing guide
A manufacturer’s prescription range does not establish how clear or comfortable the display will be for every wearer. Ask how prescription customization affects display alignment, and check whether your chosen lens type is supported in your country. Progressive-lens wearers should confirm availability with an authorized retailer rather than assume the standard online flow will work.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Battery, charging and connection dependence
Even lists a 192 mAh (0.744 Wh) battery in the glasses and a 2,000 mAh (7.4 Wh) case, which it says can provide about seven full charges. Its “up to two days of regular use” statement does not specify a standardized test mix in the cited specifications. Navigation, translation, teleprompter use and AI features may put different demands on the system, and phone connectivity also uses the phone’s battery.

Before relying on the G2 for a workday or trip, test your own pattern of use and phone setup. If connection drops or alerts stop arriving, check Bluetooth pairing, app permissions and Android background restrictions; for navigation, also confirm location permissions. Even’s support center has separate guidance for app connection, G2/R1 connection, charging and screen problems, though support categories do not indicate how often those problems occur. Even G2 support topics
Is the R1 ring worth adding?
The R1 is optional. It can provide discreet tap-and-swipe control for navigating menus without reaching for the phone or touching the glasses, and Even also promotes wellness and health-tracking functions. If phone or touch interaction is adequate for you, the ring is an extra rather than a requirement.
Even’s purchasing guide recommends using its sizing kit: the ring uses a nonstandard sizing system, does not offer half sizes through the normal process, and fit affects sensor contact for health tracking. One early T3 tester found the ring fiddly because the sample fit was loose; that is an individual experience, not evidence of a universal defect. The launch report listed prices around £239 / €269, while official and commerce listings show a signal around $249; pricing varies by market and date. Who should choose each pair?
Choose Even G2 if
- You wear prescription glasses and your lens type is supported in your market.
- You want lightweight, camera-free glasses for text prompts rather than media capture.
- Your priorities are navigation, translation, notifications, captions or teleprompter use.
- You are comfortable with a green monochrome display and phone dependence.
- You work in settings where a camera or audible speakers would be unwelcome.
Choose Meta Ray-Ban Display if
- You want to take photos or video, use built-in speakers or make calls through your glasses.
- Camera-based AI and a full-color display matter more than minimum weight.
- You prefer a broader consumer-media proposition and accept the heavier frame and shorter stated battery life.
Check before buying either
- Country availability, local app support and phone compatibility.
- Prescription and progressive-lens options, plus return terms for custom lenses.
- Regional access and any account or subscription requirements for AI and translation.
- Whether your workplace permits the device and whether on-lens notifications suit your privacy needs.
- Local warranty and service coverage. Even says official-store or authorized-retailer purchases receive its official warranty; unauthorized second-hand purchases may not.
Verdict
Even G2 is a meaningful Meta Ray-Ban Display rival for a narrower job: discreet, lightweight glasses that put text and prompts in view. It is the more compelling direction for many prescription wearers and professionals who value a camera-free design. Meta remains the stronger choice for camera, audio, media capture and broader AI interaction. The G2’s case depends on wanting a wearable display—not wanting a camera and speaker system disguised as glasses.
