Journe Octa Sport Aluminium, reference ARS, is a discontinued 42 mm automatic watch made from 2011 to 2014. Its defining proposition is an exceptionally light aluminum-alloy construction—53 grams according to F.P. Journe—paired with the brand’s Calibre 1300.3 and a display that includes a large date and power reserve. It is a distinct model from the titanium Octa Sport and the later lineSport references, and should be considered today as a pre-owned or potentially Patrimoine-service watch, not as a current-production recommendation.
What is the F.P. Journe Octa Sport Aluminium ARS?
F.P. Journe identifies the aluminum model as the Octa Sport Aluminium, reference ARS, powered by Calibre 1300.3. The manufacturer states that production ran from 2011 through 2014, so the ARS is a discontinued watch rather than a current catalogue option. It is not the titanium Octa Sport: the brand lists the same calibre for both, but their case materials differ. F.P. Journe’s official Octa Sport Aluminium page is the reference for the ARS specifications; the official titanium model page identifies that separate version.

Size, weight and materials
The manufacturer lists a 42 mm case diameter and an overall height of 11.6 mm. The case is aluminum alloy with rubber inserts, while the dial is described as aluminum alloy and sapphire, with applied luminescent indexes and numerals. F.P. Journe gives the watch’s weight as 53 grams; the retrieved product page does not show a publication year for that figure.
The brand describes its aluminum treatment as intended to make the material scratch resistant, anti-corrosive and anti-allergic. These are manufacturer statements about design and material treatment, not independently verified performance results. F.P. Journe’s product copy calls it “This exclusive new watch of an astounding lightness for absolute comfort weighs only 53 grams.”

Calibre 1300.3, display and power reserve
The official technical description specifies a unidirectional automatic winding movement made from aluminum alloy. Its indications are arranged around the dial as follows:
- Centered hours and minutes
- Small seconds at 6 o’clock
- Day/night indication at 9 o’clock
- Power reserve at 10:30
- Large date at 1 o’clock
F.P. Journe’s technical specification lists autonomy of 160 ± 10 hours. Separately, the brand’s descriptive text says the movement delivers 120 hours of chronometric precision. Those are two differently worded manufacturer statements: the 120-hour claim should not be substituted for, or presented as identical to, the technical autonomy figure. The retrieved official page gives no publication year for either figure. See the manufacturer’s technical details and description.
How it differs from the titanium Octa Sport
The useful distinction is material and model identity: the subject here is the aluminum-alloy ARS, while F.P. Journe also documents an Octa Sport Titanium. Both official pages name Calibre 1300.3, but that shared calibre does not establish that every external detail is the same. Buyers comparing examples should confirm the reference and case material against the watch’s documentation and the seller’s description rather than assuming specifications transfer between versions.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Buying a discontinued Octa Sport Aluminium
Because production ended in 2014 according to the manufacturer, a buyer should treat an ARS as a specific pre-owned-watch purchase. Current market pricing, live availability, condition patterns and seller authorization are not established here; assess the individual watch and seller directly rather than relying on a general price expectation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Confirm that the offered watch is reference ARS and is the aluminum model, not the titanium Octa Sport or a later lineSport reference.
- Ask the seller to substantiate the watch’s provenance, condition and included documentation. The available sources do not establish condition-specific issues or a standard resale value.
- If a black rubber strap is offered, verify its authenticity, condition and fit for that particular watch. The manufacturer says the Octa Sport was also available with a black rubber strap, but current availability and fit for an individual example have not been checked.
- Ask F.P. Journe or the seller to confirm any proposed service, warranty or eligibility details before purchase; the sources reviewed do not establish current coverage or terms.
Can F.P. Journe help locate a discontinued example?
F.P. Journe describes its Patrimoine service as a route involving discontinued watches, including repurchase and restoration. That makes it relevant to a buyer researching an older Octa Sport, but the service page does not show that a particular ARS is currently in stock, establish pricing, or confirm eligibility or warranty terms. Contact the brand directly to ask what is available and what conditions apply. F.P. Journe Patrimoine service.
Review verdict
The Octa Sport Aluminium ARS is most compelling for a collector seeking a clearly differentiated F.P. Journe: an unusually light, 42 mm aluminum watch with a complex practical display and a long stated autonomy. Its case material and discontinued status are central to the decision, not incidental details. The official specifications make a strong case for its design concept, but they cannot answer the purchase-specific questions that matter in today’s secondary market—price, condition, provenance and availability must be verified for the individual watch.
