Monobalancier and Monotourbillon: the key difference
“Monobalancier” identifies the automatic RD720SQ movement used in the Excalibur Monobalancier. “Monotourbillon” identifies a separate model with a manually wound RD512 flying tourbillon. A tourbillon is therefore not the defining complication of the Monobalancier reviewed here.

Excalibur Monobalancier Titanium review
Movement and specifications
Roger Dubuis lists the titanium Monobalancier with its self-winding RD720SQ skeleton movement, a 72-hour power reserve, 4 Hz frequency (28,800 vibrations per hour), 178 components, and 32 jewels. The brand also lists Geneva Seal certification. The open-worked construction puts the movement architecture on display, so the appeal is as much visual as mechanical.

Case, bracelet and water resistance
The official listing specifies a 42 mm Grade 5 titanium case and bracelet, a quick-release bracelet system, and water resistance of 10 bar (100 m). Roger Dubuis says its titanium is 33% lighter than steel; that is the manufacturer’s comparison, not an independently measured result here. The 42 mm diameter and skeletonized dial are central considerations for fit and legibility, but no independent wrist-wear assessment is available.
Monobalancier Cobalt: a material and color alternative
The Monobalancier Cobalt is not simply a blue-dial version of the titanium watch. Roger Dubuis specifies a cobalt-chrome case and a blue skeletonized RD720SQ movement. Its published movement figures include 72 hours of reserve and 178 components, and the brand cites 14 hand-finishes and Geneva Seal certification.

The retrieved official Cobalt page does not quantify the case’s weight or state water resistance, so those points should not be inferred from the titanium model’s specifications. Compare material and appearance directly, and verify wearability, price and availability for the specific reference before choosing.
What the Monotourbillon adds
The Excalibur Monotourbillon Titanium pairs a manually wound RD512 with a flying tourbillon and a stated 72-hour reserve. Its mechanical proposition differs from the automatic Monobalancier’s RD720SQ: the tourbillon is the defining complication, while the Monobalancier emphasizes its self-winding skeleton movement. The shared 42 mm case size and stated reserve do not make the watches mechanically interchangeable.

Roger Dubuis’ Watches and Wonders 2022 release presented the Monobalancier as an evolution of the Excalibur collection, with revised case lines and a star-shaped bridge floating above the barrel. A separate Dr. Woo collaboration takes the Monobalancier concept in a more graphic direction. The brand describes a ceramic case, cosmic imagery, the RD720SQ, 72-hour reserve and Geneva Seal certification. Dr. Woo said: “Our Solar System is such an incredible place of enduring rhythms and shifting patterns. - Check local price, stock and service support: current regional pricing and inventory have not been established. Ask an authorized retailer or Roger Dubuis directly for a dated, reference-specific quote.
- Ask about bracelet compatibility before changing it: the titanium listing includes a fitted quick-release Grade 5 titanium bracelet.
