Farer Roché, Markham and Foxe: A Closer Look at the 2024 World Timers

Farer’s Roché, Markham and Foxe share a reported world-time mechanism and 39 mm case, but their blue, white and green dials create distinctly different displays.

Farer’s Roché, Markham and Foxe World Timers share the same reported movement, case dimensions and city-by-city time display; the main differences are dial color, contrast and how their lume is applied. The February 2024 Fratello article described all three as 39 mm watches with a modified Sellita SW330-1 movement and a separately adjustable city disc. Its listed price was £1,495 / €1,695 / US$1,695 at the time—not a verified current price.

What is a world timer watch?

A world timer is designed to show the time across multiple named time zones at once. On these Farer models, an outer disc carries 24 city positions and an inner ring marks the hours of a 24-hour day. Align a city with the appropriate reference point, then read its time against the inner ring. The layout makes the time in the listed locations available at a glance, rather than requiring the wearer to calculate each difference separately.

That is the appeal Brad Homes emphasizes in his February 22, 2024 Fratello article: seeing several time zones together. Homes contrasts this with a GMT watch equipped with a quick-set 12-hour hand, which he frames as more suited to tracking one additional time zone while traveling. That is his practical comparison, not a universal technical definition of every world timer or GMT watch.

How the Farer World Timer display works

The dial has hour, minute and seconds hands, a date window at 3 o’clock, an inner 24-hour ring and a separately adjustable outer city disc. The main push/pull crown has two setting positions; a second crown near 10 o’clock turns the city disc. The mechanism described by Fratello lets the wearer read the time for the city positions shown on the disc.

  2. Set the date or 24-hour ring: Pull the main crown to its first position. Turn it counterclockwise to adjust the date or clockwise to adjust the inner 24-hour ring.
  3. Set local time: Pull the main crown to its second position. The seconds hand stops while the time is set.
  4. Read another city’s time: Find that city on the outer disc and read its corresponding hour against the inner 24-hour ring.

Roché, Markham and Foxe: what differs?

The three versions use a stamped guilloché dial pattern and share the same reported dimensions and operation. Their distinct palettes change the amount of contrast on the world-time display, while their indices and luminous details affect how the dial reads. Homes notes that color can also make watches of equal dimensions look more or less visually prominent.

Variant Dial and city display Indices and lume Other visual detail
Roché Deep blue dial; two-tone blue rotating map. Blue lettering appears on a luminous city ring, while orange marks the day portion of the 24-hour ring and the “London” label. Indices cut from three-dimensional blocks of Super-LumiNova, as described by Fratello. Mint-green seconds-hand tip noted by Homes.
Markham Predominantly white dial with a contrasting city ring; red backgrounds distinguish the 7–18-hour markings and “London” label. Applied dark indices do not glow in the same way as the other two; small luminous dots sit outside the hour markers. Its white dial and contrasting details make the display visually distinct from the blue and green variants.
Foxe Deep green dial and city ring, giving the world-time display a more understated look. Three-dimensional luminous indices, as described by Fratello. Green-matched rotor.

The stated 20 mm lug width can help when considering an alternate strap, but width alone does not confirm compatibility. Check the particular strap’s lug fit, quick-release construction, taper and buckle arrangement before buying.

Which Farer World Timer might suit you?

  • Choose the Roché if you want a blue dial with a highly differentiated display, orange day details and the described three-dimensional luminous indices.
  • Choose the Markham if you prefer a predominantly white dial and red accents, and do not need the applied hour indices to glow like those on the Roché and Foxe.
  • Choose the Foxe if you favor a deep-green, more restrained city display, while retaining the three-dimensional luminous indices.
  • Consider a GMT instead if your main use is following one additional time zone with a quick-set 12-hour hand. The world-time layout’s advantage, as Homes presents it, is reading several city times together.

These distinctions are based on the appearance and descriptions in the Fratello article; it does not provide comparative lume measurements or brightness tests.

What the review’s verdict does—and does not—say

Homes states, “I am happy to go on record and say that a world timer simply makes more sense than a GMT.” That is the reviewer’s preference for this kind of multi-city display, not an objective conclusion that one complication is better for every wearer. He also says the blue-dial Roché spent more time on his wrist than the other two, singling out the mint-green seconds-hand tip as a detail he enjoyed.

The article-era price and specifications should not be read as confirmation of present-day pricing or availability. The February 2024 review does not establish whether Roché, Markham or Foxe can still be purchased now.
