The De Bethune DB28XS Purple Rain is a 2024 limited-edition watch that takes the brand’s compact DB28XS and renders its titanium case, floating lugs and decorated dial in purple. Inside is the hand-wound DB2005 movement, with a stated six-day power reserve. Monochrome reported an edition of 25 and a launch price of CHF 90,000 / USD 99,000 in April 2024; those figures are historical, not a current price or availability check.
What is the DB28XS Purple Rain?
De Bethune introduced the Purple Rain in 2024 as a purple-treated titanium version of its DB28XS. The brand’s launch article, dated 10 April 2024, places the color in its ongoing exploration of hues produced by heating titanium. That is the manufacturer’s account of the work, rather than independent validation of a technical or performance claim. The brand’s historical catalog also lists Purple Rain as a 2024 DB28XS.
The model pairs the family’s floating-lug design with a vivid purple finish. The color is not limited to the exterior: De Bethune specifies purple grade 5 titanium for the polished case and floating lugs, as well as a purple titanium plate and dial. The effect can appear luminous or hypnotic under changing light, but those are visual impressions, not measured properties.

How does the purple design work?
The case and floating lugs are polished grade 5 titanium treated to produce the purple color. On the dial, De Bethune combines a purple titanium plate with random guilloché decoration and a starry-sky motif using white-gold stars. The manufacturer calls the dial treatment a “world’s first”; that is De Bethune’s claim, not an independently established distinction.
De Bethune’s launch article describes the purple tone as part of its continuing work with heat-treated titanium, building on an earlier focus on blue titanium. It locates this color research at the brand’s workshop in l’Auberson. The article quotes Denis Flageollet, identified by the brand as Master Watchmaker and Founder: “There is no point in working if not to progress, and the only way to achieve this is to continually question oneself.” These are the maker’s descriptions of its own process and philosophy.

What does the DB2005 movement offer?
The DB2005 is a manual-winding movement with a self-regulating twin barrel. De Bethune specifies a six-day power reserve, along with 160 parts, 27 jewels and a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. The watch displays hours and minutes; the technical sheet does not list additional complications. As a hand-wound watch, it requires winding by the wearer rather than relying on an automatic rotor.
