What is the Formex Essence 41mm COSC in steel?
It is a 41mm stainless-steel member of Formex’s Essence collection, with an automatic movement that Formex identifies as chronometer grade and individually COSC-certified on its current Malachite product page. Formex’s media index lists a Monochrome Watches first-look item dated 16 October 2025 and an Oracle Time steel-update item dated 17 October 2025. The index supplies titles and dates, not the articles’ observations, so those listings do not establish independent hands-on impressions.
The qualification matters because the currently detailed product page is for one specific dial variant. Its specifications are useful for understanding the 41mm steel watch, but should not be assumed to apply unchanged to every Essence reference.
Case dimensions and construction
For the current 41mm Malachite reference, Formex lists a 41mm diameter, 10.6mm case height, 46.5mm lug-to-lug length, and 22mm lug width. These are manufacturer-published dimensions, not independent measurements. The 46.5mm lug-to-lug figure is particularly useful when considering wrist fit; diameter alone does not describe how far the watch spans across the wrist.

Formex specifies 316L stainless steel for the case and bezel, sapphire crystals on the front and back with anti-reflective treatment, a screw-down crown, and water resistance of 10 bar (100m). These are stated specifications, not evidence of independent durability or water-resistance testing.
Movement and COSC certification
Formex names a Swiss Made Sellita SW200-2 Power+ automatic movement for the current Malachite version. Its product page lists 26 jewels, chronometer grade, and a 65-hour power reserve, and says each watch is individually COSC-certified. The reserve and movement details here are Formex’s published claims; the available information does not provide independent timing measurements or test results for this watch.

Formex describes COSC as the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres and says it is Switzerland’s only official organisation allowed to certify chronometers. The certification claim should be understood as the manufacturer presents it for the specified reference, rather than as a substitute for independent review of an individual watch’s performance after sale.
Fit, bracelet adjustment, and strap changes
Formex describes a Case Suspension System and a bracelet clasp with micro-adjustment positions at 0, 3, and 6mm. For compatible nylon, leather, or rubber straps, the product page describes 7mm of adjustment across six micro-steps. These systems provide adjustment options; they do not establish how the watch will feel on a particular wrist.

Formex says its Essence straps and bracelet can be changed by hand without tools. That is a practical option for switching between configurations. If buying a replacement strap, verify that it is compatible with the exact 41mm reference; the 22mm lug width listed for the Malachite variant alone does not confirm compatibility with every third-party strap or attachment system.
What to verify across Essence variants
The Essence family includes versions that differ in size, materials, dials, and configurations. Compare exact references rather than treating the 41mm steel Malachite page as a specification sheet for the entire range.

- Size and fit: Compare the listed case diameter and lug-to-lug length for each reference, not diameter alone.
- Materials and dial: Check whether the case is steel, ceramic, or carbon and confirm the particular dial material, finish, and color.
- Movement: Verify the movement and stated power reserve on the exact product page; do not transfer the Malachite model’s SW200-2 Power+ details to another version without confirmation.
- Configuration: Check whether the reference is sold on a bracelet or strap and what adjustment features apply to that configuration.
- Water resistance: Use the exact reference’s published rating rather than assuming all Essence watches share one figure.
- Price and availability: Compare current listings only after accounting for currency, tax treatment, stock status, and location.
Launch timing and availability
Formex’s media index dates the cited steel-update coverage to 17 October 2025 and the Monochrome first-look listing to 16 October 2025. A current product page or listing appearing in 2026 does not, by itself, make the watch a new 2026 release. The available information does not confirm Amazon inventory or a particular retailer’s stock; check Formex or a verified seller for the exact reference and current availability.
