Grand Seiko says its dial takes its cue from autumn leaves lit by sunrise over the Hotaka mountain range; inside is Caliber 9R65, rated for about three days of power reserve and ±15 seconds per month.
Why the SBGA499 is a special edition
Grand Seiko places reference SBGA499, also identified as SBGA499G on some regional pages, in its Elegance Collection. The watch commemorates the 20th anniversary of Caliber 9R, the company’s original Spring Drive movement, created in 2004. Grand Seiko lists the production run at 1,300 pieces worldwide. Grand Seiko India’s official listing describes the dial as autumn leaves illuminated by golden morning light over the Hotaka mountain range in Shinshu, central Japan.
The red dial is accented by a rose-gold-colored GS logo and a recessed copper-pink power-reserve indicator. These details make the anniversary theme more than a reference number on the case: the dial itself is intended to evoke the landscape and light behind the design.
What Caliber 9R65 offers
The SBGA499 uses Spring Drive Caliber 9R65. Grand Seiko states an approximate 72-hour power reserve and accuracy of ±15 seconds per month, equivalent to ±1 second per day. The movement’s name and performance should not be confused with Caliber 9RB2: in an April 1, 2025 announcement, Grand Seiko introduced 9RB2 with its “U.F.A.” designation and stated annual accuracy of ±20 seconds for separate Evolution 9 models. The official SBGA499 listings also specify 30 jewels, a display case back, and a power-reserve indicator on the dial. The movement’s reserve is about three days, so it can continue running through a weekend off the wrist, though the exact time it stops depends on how fully wound it was.
Size, materials and published specifications
The India listing gives the case dimensions and band width; regional listings provide additional specifications. Published measurements are useful for judging scale, but they cannot fully predict how the watch will sit on an individual wrist.

At 40.2 mm across and 48.5 mm from lug to lug, the case is a useful starting point for comparison with a watch already in your rotation. Its 12.8 mm thickness and 19 mm band width round out the listed fit dimensions. Grand Seiko describes the crystal as box-shaped sapphire and specifies inner-surface anti-reflective coating.
The 10 bar rating is the manufacturer’s published water-resistance specification; it is not a recommendation to expose a watch to every water activity. Check the instruction and care guidance supplied with the watch for appropriate use and maintenance.

Bracelet and strap questions
The official India listing specifies a 19 mm band width, but that measurement alone does not establish that an aftermarket strap will fit correctly at the case or end links. If you are considering a strap change, confirm the attachment geometry and fit with an authorized retailer or a strap specialist before ordering. The available official product specifications do not verify specific aftermarket strap compatibility.
