What is the purple dial inspired by?
Grand Seiko describes the dial as a combination of its Mt. Iwate pattern and a soft purple color inspired by kiri, the official flower of Iwate Prefecture. The brand says the flower blooms pale purple each spring, while the pressed dial pattern represents the ridges of Mount Iwate. How large is the SBGW323?
Grand Seiko’s US specifications list a 36.5 mm case diameter, 42.7 mm lug-to-lug length and 11.6 mm thickness, with an 18 mm band width. The case is stainless steel and the listed weight is 132 g. Diameter alone does not determine fit: lug-to-lug length and the shape of a wearer’s wrist also affect how a watch sits.
The official specification also lists a box-shaped sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating on its inner surface, a screw case back and a folding clasp with push-button release. Grand Seiko rates it for 10 bar water resistance and magnetic resistance of 4,800 A/m. Those ratings describe the manufacturer’s specifications; they are not a substitute for checking the watch’s condition and care guidance before exposure to water or magnetic fields.

What movement and power reserve does it have?
The SBGW323 uses Grand Seiko’s 9S64, a manually wound mechanical caliber. Grand Seiko lists an approximately 72-hour power reserve. As a manual-wind watch, it must be wound by hand rather than relying on wrist motion to wind an automatic rotor.
Grand Seiko gives two accuracy figures for the caliber, and they refer to different conditions: a mean daily rate of +5 to -3 seconds per day under the brand’s stated controlled test conditions, and normal-usage accuracy of +10 to -1 seconds per day. What does the 44GS name mean?
SBGW323 belongs to the Heritage Collection and uses a modern interpretation of the 44GS design. Grand Seiko says the original 44GS established the design philosophy later known as the Grand Seiko Style in 1967. That history explains the model’s 44GS designation; it does not mean SBGW323 is the original 1967 watch.
The Grand Seiko Boutique Online US listing additionally describes Zaratsu polishing and drilled lugs, and notes bracelet customization. Those are manufacturer or retailer descriptions, not an independent assessment of finishing or a guarantee that every bracelet option will fit. The listed 18 mm band width is the useful starting point when considering compatible straps or bracelets; confirm the specific item’s fit before buying. Grand Seiko’s US product page lists the watch at USD 5,900. This is a US regional list price, not a universal price or a guarantee of current retailer stock; check the listing for current availability and terms.
For historical launch context, Grand Seiko Boutique Japan announced a tax-included price of ¥770,000, reservations from April 11, 2025, and a scheduled sale date of May 10, 2025. Those are Japan-specific launch details, not current pricing across markets. The Japanese boutique announcement records those dates and price.
