What is the Louis Erard x Alain Silberstein Smile-Day Grey?
It is the grey-dial version of Louis Erard’s Smile-Day collaboration with designer Alain Silberstein. The manufacturer says the partnership began in 2019; Monochrome reported the Grey model in 2024, following earlier khaki- and white-dial Smile-Day versions. Louis Erard lists this reference as a limited edition of 178 pieces.
The model’s defining contrast is its glossy grey dial against red, blue and yellow hands. Monochrome describes the design as drawing on Silberstein’s geometric, color-forward visual language and identifies the dial color as “Stahlgrau.” Those are design descriptions, not claims of hands-on performance testing. What does the Smile-Day display show?
At 6 o’clock, the dial combines the date with a day-and-mood display. Rather than spelling out the weekday, a rotating disc presents one of seven illustrated mood faces. The hands keep time in the collaboration’s distinctive palette: red for the hour, blue for the minute and yellow for the seconds.

Case, crystal and strap
Louis Erard specifies a 40 mm case that combines microblasted grade 2 titanium with polished grade 5 titanium. A transparent caseback reveals the movement. The sapphire crystal has anti-reflective treatment on both sides.
The grey nylon strap closes with a titanium hook-and-loop fastener. Monochrome notes that this closure is easy to adjust; that is the publication’s design observation, not a reported wear test.

The manufacturer rates water resistance at 10 bar, equivalent to 100 m or 330 ft. This is a stated specification, not a guarantee that the watch is suitable for every water activity.
Movement and specifications
The watch uses an automatic Sellita SW220-1 with hours, minutes, seconds, the mood-of-the-day display and date. Louis Erard gives an approximate power reserve of 38 hours. Monochrome reports that this version uses an élaboré-grade movement, beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), and has a customized openworked rotor.
