The Maurice Lacroix 1975 Master Grand Date Retrograde, reference 758008-SS001-090-2, puts two calendar displays on show: a large date at 12 o’clock and a blue retrograde weekday hand sweeping across the lower dial. Its open-worked sapphire dial reveals parts of their mechanisms. The official US listing specifies an automatic ML302 movement, a 42 mm steel case and a 38-hour power reserve; the movement’s architecture and case thickness are described differently by the brand and independent launch coverage.
What makes the display different?
The watch combines a large date with a retrograde weekday indicator. At 12 o’clock, separate discs show the tens and units of the date. At 6 o’clock, a blued hand moves across an arc marked for the days of the week, then returns to the beginning for the next weekly cycle. The open-worked sapphire dial exposes parts of the mechanisms behind both displays, making the calendar layout the main visual feature rather than a detail hidden beneath the dial. Monochrome and Fratello describe the display and movement architecture.

What is known about the ML302 movement?
Maurice Lacroix calls the ML302 an automatic manufacture caliber. Independent descriptions are more specific about its construction: Monochrome identifies a Sellita SW200-1 base with a proprietary display module, while Fratello describes an SW200 base and an in-house day/date module. These are the respective sources’ characterizations; they do not use identical wording for the module. The official listing specifies 39 jewels, a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour and a 38-hour reserve.

What to check before choosing it
This is a design-led calendar watch whose appeal depends on whether you enjoy seeing the date and weekday mechanisms as part of the dial. The published specifications establish its size, reserve, display and water-resistance rating, but the cited launch coverage does not provide directly tested comparisons with competing watches. Useful points of comparison are case diameter and thickness, how easily you can read the displays, the type and visibility of the calendar complication, movement architecture and reserve, water resistance, strap-change compatibility and current local price.
The listed strap width is 20 mm and the strap has an easy-change system, but those facts alone do not establish that third-party straps with a generic 20 mm width will fit the case. Confirm end-fitting compatibility before buying a replacement.
