The Mido Multifort Chronometer1 Racer pairs a black, orange and light-blue racing-inspired dial with a COSC-certified automatic movement, day/date display and 100 m water resistance. Reference M038.431.36.051.00 measures 42 mm across and comes with two interchangeable leather straps. Its fit and launch-era prices are worth checking against your wrist and local market before buying.
What makes the Chronometer1 Racer distinctive?
The Racer is a colourful variant of Mido’s Multifort Chronometer1, built around a black dial with vertical Côtes de Genève decoration. Orange and light-blue rings add contrast, with an orange seconds hand and luminous applied hour markers and hands. The day and date sit together at 3 o’clock.
The black PVD-coated stainless-steel case continues the dark palette. A domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating covers the dial, while a transparent caseback shows the movement. The package includes two interchangeable leather straps: light blue with orange lines, and black leather with perforations in a rally style.
Case size, water resistance and everyday use
Monochrome’s October 2025 report gives the case dimensions as 42 mm in diameter, 12 mm thick and 48.96 mm from lug to lug. Those measurements give a more useful starting point than diameter alone, but they cannot establish how the watch will sit on any particular wrist. The black PVD finish and bright dial details also make this a more visually assertive choice than a restrained, monochrome everyday watch.

The screw-down crown and stated 100 m water resistance are practical specifications for a watch intended to handle more than desk wear. They are not a substitute for following Mido’s current care and water-resistance guidance, particularly before using the watch in water.
Caliber 80 SI and chronometer certification
The automatic Mido Caliber 80 SI is based on ETA C07.821 and uses a silicon balance spring. Monochrome reports COSC chronometer certification, a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour, regulation in five positions and an 80-hour power reserve. The long stated reserve can be useful if the watch is taken off for a weekend, though actual running time depends on the movement’s state of wind and use.

How to judge whether it is a good choice
The Racer makes the most sense for someone who wants a sporty, high-contrast watch and values a certified movement, a long stated reserve and a second strap in the box. Its 42 mm diameter and nearly 49 mm lug-to-lug length deserve a try-on if you prefer compact watches or have a close-fitting strap preference. The included straps also let the watch shift between a brighter and a darker look without buying another strap immediately.
When comparing it with other watches, focus on case dimensions, water resistance, chronometer certification, stated power reserve, strap package, dial style and the current price in your market. None of those criteria alone establishes that it is a better choice than a competitor; wrist fit and whether you enjoy its bold colour scheme are central to the decision.
