The Montblanc 1858 Geosphere Chronograph 0 Oxygen Limited Edition (ref. MB132303) pairs a chronograph with world time, displayed across two rotating hemisphere globes. Limited to 290 pieces, it marks mountaineer Reinhold Messner’s 80th birthday with a red glacier-pattern dial inspired by Antarctica. Montblanc’s US product page lists it at $11,100 and currently labels it sold out online; boutique availability may differ.
What is the Montblanc 1858 Geosphere Chronograph 0 Oxygen?
Reference MB132303 is a chronograph version of Montblanc’s 1858 Geosphere, combining stopwatch functions with a world-time display. Two rotating three-dimensional globes represent the northern and southern hemispheres, alongside a 24-hour scale, day-and-night indication and date. Montblanc limits this edition to 290 pieces. Its product page frames the watch as a tribute to mountaineer Reinhold Messner on his 80th birthday; WatchTime covered the edition on September 16, 2024. The available dated coverage establishes 2024 context, not an exact announcement or first-sale date.
Design: an Antarctic-inspired red dial
The red sfumato dial has a glacier pattern that Montblanc says takes inspiration from Antarctica’s red glaciers. White luminescent, ruthenium-coated Arabic numerals and indexes provide the time markers. A bidirectional black ceramic bezel, fluted and marked with cardinal points, frames the dial. The watch comes on an interchangeable black textile strap with red stitching.
Chronograph and world-time display
Inside is Montblanc manufacture calibre MB 29.27, an automatic movement combining the chronograph and world-time functions. The central chronograph seconds hand works with 30-minute and 12-hour counters. For world time, the northern and southern hemisphere globes rotate against a 24-hour scale with day-and-night indication; the date appears by disc.

Case size and water resistance
| Specification | Montblanc’s stated detail |
|---|---|

| Edition size | 290 pieces |
| Movement | Automatic manufacture calibre MB 29.27 |
| Case diameter | 44 mm |
| Case height | 17.1 mm |
| Water resistance | 10 bar / 100 meters |
These dimensions and the water-resistance rating are Montblanc’s published specifications. The 17.1 mm height is a notable part of the fit to consider alongside the 44 mm diameter, particularly if you prefer a thinner watch or have a smaller wrist. The stated 10 bar / 100-meter rating is a specification, not a substitute for checking Montblanc’s care guidance for activities or service needs.
What “0 Oxygen” means
Montblanc says the watch is encased with no oxygen inside. The brand explains that its Zero Oxygen technology “reduces fogging caused by temperature changes and prevents component oxidation.” Those are Montblanc’s stated aims for the construction, not independently verified performance claims for this specific watch.

For a useful comparison, check case diameter and height, movement and complications, water resistance, dial and strap, edition size and price. Montblanc’s collection page presents other 1858 Geosphere models, but the available product details do not establish a complete like-for-like comparison or a performance ranking. Verify each model’s specifications rather than assuming that a shared Geosphere name means the same functions or dimensions.
