Rado brought back the Anatom in 2023, forty years after its 1983 debut. The new collection preserves the original’s defining idea—a square case shaped around a curved sapphire crystal—while updating the materials and mechanics. Since the return, Rado has expanded the range with ceramic-bracelet editions and brightly colored rubber-strap models.

What makes the Anatom distinctive?

The Anatom’s design starts with an unusual pairing: a square case and a convex, cylindrical sapphire crystal that follows the curve of the wrist. Rado describes the rounded crystal, flowing case and bracelet attachments, and reduced use of sharp angles as central to the watch’s “anatomical” identity. The company says these features became part of its design language. The modern collection revisits that shape rather than attempting a technical reproduction of the 1983 watch.

Rado dates the original’s world premiere to 1983. Its 2023 return kept the curved crystal and square case but brought in high-tech ceramic elements and an automatic movement. In the company’s 2023 release, CEO Adrian Bosshard called the new references a continuation of the collection’s design and wearing proposition.

How the collection has evolved

2023: The return on rubber straps

The first modern Anatom references arrived in December 2023 with black matte high-tech ceramic bezels and crowns, cylindrical sapphire crystals, rubber straps and automatic R766 movements. The launch range included blue, green and cognac gradient dials. Rado also announced a 40-piece 40th-anniversary edition, reference R10201739.

What are the specifications?

Shared movement and water resistance

Rado’s launch and 2025 materials specify the automatic R766 calibre, a 72-hour power reserve and 5 bar (50 m) water resistance. The 2023 release lists 21 jewels and an antimagnetic Nivachron hairspring. Rado’s 2024 account says the modern automatic movement replaces the original Anatom’s quartz movement, so the return is not a movement-for-movement reissue.

For the 2025 models, Rado says the R766 is adjusted in five positions. The 2024 bracelet-edition release also specifies a date display at 6 o’clock.

Case and bracelet dimensions

Rado lists a 32.5 mm case width for the 2024 ceramic-bracelet editions and a bracelet taper to 20 mm. Because the case is square and the crystal curves over the wrist, the stated width alone cannot predict how the watch will sit on an individual wrist; trying on the specific version is the most reliable fit check.

What is the Rado Anatom’s price and availability?

Rado’s collection page displayed CHF 3,250 for an Anatom Automatic listing when accessed on October 8, 2026. That is a time-sensitive listing in Swiss francs, not a universal price for every reference or market. Confirm the exact reference, local price and retailer stock before buying.
